Eugene should fall in lino, as ours is a club town. Tho senate of tho United Slates is mighty free with the people's money. A day or two ni it granted an increase in tho pension to tho widow of Colonol Fredrick Dent, siBter of President rant, from $30 to WO monthly; pen-ioned the widow of Major-Oeneral Doub ledud at $100 monthly; ami pen sioned tho widow of General t' ti r.il at 75 dollars monthly and the widow of Lieutenant Fredcri' k Bchwalka, tho Arctic explorer, at, $30 monthly. The people have to work to pay such outragcjus ap propriations and they impose burdens upon tho people which op ' press them and deprive them of much thoy need. East Oregon inn. Thoso pensions are all excessivo, and not iu keeping with the idea of tho peoplo in establishing a pension system. It is nothing but favorit ism at tho oxpenso of tho people. Tho poor widow whoso husband lost his life fighting for tho Union is gi von $10 or $15 a month, while tho willow of ono who held a higher position in time of war at a good salary, ami (lied a natural death, is given $50 to $100 a month.
