Cline, of Woodburn, Orciioii, who owns a traction freight ing engine of 40 horse power was it. our city this week and lius been In duced to make the peoplo of Eugene and vicinity a propositi n, concerning transportation of freight between Lu- geue and Corvallis. Air. unne win, if a sufficient amount of freight is pledged tojustiry the outlay, put in new bridges and repair the road and guarantee to haul one hundred tons of freight per month, il business demands it, at the stipulated price of $2.75 per ton for the dry season of 1895 and $2.50 for the dry season of 1890. But in or der to make himself safe in the larife outlay it is necessary to fix tho bridges and road and secure surllcient suitable wagons Mr Cllne requires that our cit izens shall agree to furnish him 50 tons of freight per week at the above stip ulated price for the seasons of lSftj and 1880. Mr. Cline has examined the road and bridges and knowing the capacity of his ehgi lie, thinks tho plan of traction freighting practical and of great value to the business of Eugene aud the reduction in freight rates would save many thomand dollars to the shippers and consumers of Lane county. Mr. Cline is morally and financially responsible and refers to the Bank of Woodburn as to his abil ity to carry out his part of the prop osition. Mr. Cline would not ask a guarantee as to the volume of "business and prices, were it not for the possibil ity Hint the ruilroad would prolml.lv cut price so much as to take the busi ness and leave his outlay for tiie bridges and road repairs u deatl loss. The establishment of a freiu lit line of this capacity aud character would en able the business men of Eugene to make prices that would attract tnnle from a long distance. Th.s proposi tion enables us to secure reasonable rates immediately and at no cost what ever to us. Mr. Cline asks no bonus or help of any kind except that he shall have business enough to justify him the outlay mentioned ubove. Southeastern Oregon has a large cash trade that now goes to Aslilund and other points along the S P railroad hut we could secure penuaueutly the rate on freight named above it would enable our business men to make prices that would attract nearly all of that trade to this point during tho summer and fall months. Mr. Cline says he cm be ready to start his freight train within thirty days after the guarantees arc furnished him. Ho has appointed Geo. M. Miller his agent to confer with business men and of certain if his proposition Is acceptable. This is a matter of great Importance In our city and every one interested In the future growth of the city as well as those who wish to extend this tradeshould strain a point to encourage this enterprise. liusimss men ami all siioum om.mer this mutter thoroughly and be pre pared to give Mr. Cline and his agent a definite answer when called upon. llow Thff We offer 9100 reward for any caso of OAtarrh that cannot be cured by tho Uho ol Hull's Ca tarrh Cure.
