Portland, July 29.—The Eugene merchants’ commit tee held a splendid confer ence with Manager O’Brien today. At its conclusion he stated positively that a new depot would be built in Eu gene this year. He said work would be commenced as soon as the chief engineer had completed his plans, and the depot would be a credit to the city, the finest on the line of the railroad. He said the warehouses would all be moved to the north side of the track, and the new freight house would be three times as large as the present one. The grounds would also be parked. The committee is now con ferring with the passenger Manager department at O’Brien's request to arrange satisfactory train service on branches. The Wendling train schedule will probably be changed to leave Wend ling in the morning. The committee was high ly pleased with Mr. O'Brien's assurances on all matters per- sented, and the utmost har mony and good feeling pre vailed. Addresses were made by Messrs. Yoran, Shelley, Rod man, Fisher, Matlo<k, Barker and Campbell. The entire committee is enthusiastic over its reception and the as surances received from the company. WM. 0.
