JOÄNTHAN BOURNE JR. ELECTED SENATOR TODAY Salem, January 2 2. — The hous CAUSE es of the legislature in separate ses sion today elected United States sen ator for the short term Fred W. Mul key, of Portland, and tor the long term Jonathan Bourne, Jr., of Port land. The houses meet in joint ses sion tomorow to ratify the election. The election was on the first ballot and was practically unanimous, ' there being but a half u dozen mem- , bers dissenting. The election is novel in that it illustrates for the first time the new law providing for an expres sion of choice by the electorate of the i state for United States senator. The vote was as follows: For the short term: Senate—Mulkey, 27, other members being absent, in the house—Mulkey, 60.
