LANE COUNTY TIMBER BIDS FOR It Is a dull day in Eugene when i new timber land deal Is not reported. The latest Is a purchase by the Drev Lumbef Co. of Muscatine. Iowa, of some of the finest timber land in th' state, situat'd mainly in township 15, south of range 2 east, partly In Lane county and partly In Linn This tract Iles adjoining the Gate Creek tract bought by this company lit'' spring. It was owned by N. Haskell Withee and associates, of LaCrosse, Wisconsin,who purchased it several years ago for speculation. The pric paid by the Drew people is not mad. public, but It Is understood to be 1<t the neighborhood of the highest prlc- yet paid for Lane county timber. Th1* sale was made through Henrj Turrlsh, the Eastern representative of th“ purchasers, and Attorney 8 D Allen, thdr local representative. Among the principal holding- which have been disposed of are the following: T G. Hendricks, tract of 3 500 acres; Edwin Hobaon tract of 14 4 0 acres; H. E. Armstrong tract of 1 4 40 acres; W. H. Butterfield trait of 12X0 acres; pool held by Marion county people, 3360 acres; pool held by Linn county people of 1920 acres, the Temple tract of 1 4 40 acres. The balance of the purchases has been of individual holdings in tracts of from >0 to 1200 acres each. The ties are to be used In the construction of the Eugene- Springfield electric railway and the Eugene street railway system, the work of which will, It Is said, begin early hi 1 »07. It is undersood that the company has ordered the steel rails and the cars for the line and they will be here when needed.
