ALBANY IS EASY FORILO. Interesting Game An Played This Af ternoon. The Field Was in Good Condi tion and the Weather Fine For a Fast Game. heard in this city. Local auditory nerves never Uugled to more delight ful music than that furnished by these forty-five sous of Italy. After each number there was s per feet storm of applause, aud every number was encored. Such grand harmony and perfect rhythm were never before beard at the Parker. At times tbe audience was completely carried off its feet. A word about Manfred Chiaffarelli. tbe director. The man is thoroughly maguetic, and imparts his energy aud enthusiasm, not only to the Ellery payroll, but to tbe audience as well. He is an unassuming, un- freakish man, makes uo gestures that caunot readily be interpreted as ne cessary by everyone in the house, wears no white gloves, uses no dias to enhance bis own prominence, nor auy of tbe other little devices which his ilk have employed from time im memorial. Chiaffarelli works bard, but he is not self-conscious. He talks constantly to bls men, either by word of mouth or by his highly skilled Angers, me language of which is doubtless as keenly understood by the players as the spoken directions. It is appareut to the audience that he gets from the men just the results that his outstretched arms go out after. He is not a man who mistakes a tremendous volume of sound for music. Indeed, the softer effects of itis music are exceedingly well ren dered, aud make all tbe more telling by contrast the great flnalea, which are given with the greatest spirit aud tbe most inspiring translation imagin able. (Daily Guard,¡October 24.) The first Inter oolleigate football gamo to be played in Eugene this sea- sou, between the Uuiversity of Oregon and Albauy College, was witnessed by a large crowd ou Kincaid Field this afternoou. The weather end grounds were in splendid condition for fast playing. The game was interesting throughout, the 'Varsity, however, sbowiug the result of more training than their husky opponents. Supporters of both teams rooted noisily and when any particularly brilliant dash or line buck was made, pandemonium reigued for a time. It was a walkover for the Uuiversit of Oregon team. In nearly every play from four to ten yards were made through Albany’s line. Latourette made a iiioe tun of 25 yards, slid COACH SMITH GOES Thayer aud Kerrou did some nice work.
