Northern Negro Burning.
Ohio burnt a negro nt the stak«-

school teacher, shot »nd fatally
wounded the county school superin
tendent of St. Clair county at Bell
vilie, Friday night for refusing to re
new his tenehering certificate.
The negro was arrested, but a mob
took him from the officer und banged
him to a telephone pole iu the pub
lie square. Even while bis body was
jerking in the throes of death from
strangulation, mem iters of the mob
began building a fire nt the foot of
the pole. Tbe flames flared up and
licked at tbe feet of tbe victim,, but
this di<i not satisfy the mob, aud
another aud larger fire was started.
When it was burning briskly the
negro, still half alive, was cut down
and after being covered with coal oil,
was thrust into the fire.
Moans of
pain were heard from the half dead
victim of the mob, and tin o icrvcd
to infuriate further his torturers.
They fell upon him with clubs and
knives, cut nodi eat the sei sebss being
almost to pieces, and not until every
sigu of life had depart'd did they
desist and permit the llnim s to devour
tbe body. As the fire lighted up the
scene tbe members of the mob stood
around tbe tiro hurling more fagots
of wood i.itu tbe flames and denounc­

the salary of the postmaster will be
