the people are supporting too
many schools that give prac

struction, thus paying twice for
the same service. The Norma!
school is an absolute necessity

ported, but if there is to be an
.abnormal amount of expendi
ture for educational purposes,
let it be given for the education
of the common peoples children
so that every one can have at
least an eighth grade education,
then give the people in every
county a high school and there

evidence of the comparative
benefit the people get from the
money invested in. the Univer
sity and that invested m the
Normal we cite the fact that m
the Portland public schools
there are 37 teachers employed
who are graduates of Monmouth

fiity of Oregon. The University

are said to be odious, but so is
graft and it looks to us very
