Independence is to be congratu
lated on v having one of the best
orchestras in the state outside of
Portland'.!. It is doubtful if there is
another town of ItB equal in popu
lation that can boast of any kind of
musicial organization worth men
tioning, not only in the state, but
on the coast.
Judging from the remarks one
reads in the Barometer, there was
a hot time in the old town after the
Dallas-O. A. C. basket ball game
last week. When the I. A. C. boys
were defeated by Columbia they
didn't throw any mud, but went
out to a reception together and
had a good time.

E. W Cooper, of tbe real estate

Albany, wa in the city the latter
part of the wek visiting relative.
Thia office acknowledges a pleasant
call. Mr. Cooper 'is one of the
pioneer of Independence. He re
ports thing moving along nicely
at Albany and a steady growth in
the upbuilding of the city.
Among the new arrivals in In
dependence is G. VV. McCamey.
late of Brownsville. Mr McCamey
has purchased property in North
Independence and has improved
the same by erecting it new barn
and other buildings. He likes the
city very much and tbe Enterprise
extends the glad hand "of welcome
to himself and his estimable family.
H. E. Conger, formerly of trrs
place, but now bf Mtdford, was
looking after business matters here
the fore part of this week. He re
ports business rushing in his part
of the stale and real estate transfers
plentiful. This is t?ie result of
judicial publicity and Independence
can profit by the example set by
her neighbors.
There will be a game of basket
ball at the auditorium Monday
night between the I. A. C. and the
Muscatines, of Muscatine, Iowa.
This promises to be a very interest
ing game as the Mnscatines are
the champions of the east and
oar boys have been defeated but
once.
Hiram Wood, of North Indepen
dence, was a pleasant caller at
this office yesterday.. Mr. Wood
