Tlie annual got show will be
held nt Pallas Thursday nnd
Friday of next week under the
uuspiYes of the Tolk County
Mohair Association. The Polk
County Cant Show is in a class
hy ite!f. It is unique. It has
no rivals in this country. Ilk
leads in the production of tine
goats and it is the only county
in the state that gives gout
shows and the only county unit
gives any kind of livestock show
in mid-winter. The raisin;; of
goats has grown to be an im
portant Oregon industry. Ore
gon has secured the world's
record high pric? for an Angora
goat. Mr. Craig of Marion
county sold one of his goats at
Kansas City two years ago for
f!00 which is the highest price
ever paid for a goat. The
Kiddell boys of Polk county re
ceived first prize for a kid doe
and a number of second prizes
against the competition of the
world at St. Louis the past year.!
The Angora goat is the prettiest
with the state machine to e!eet
Mr. Kuykendnll ns President of
the Senate. Violent opposition
to this latter project arose, und
it all but failed, t.ivtU vtiort
has been made to have it appear
that while the Portland "ring
-a holiind kuviendall, the
Mills candidacy stood on itsoai
bottom. Not true. Mr. Mill
w'aa brought out by tho machine
Iih campaign was conducted I
the machine, and his success
distinctly a machine triumph
Mr. Kuykendall appears to hav
projected his own candidacy
lnt the machine fell in. These
things are set down, not
malice or in the snirit of com
plaint, but solely in the intere
of truth. Oregonian.

will be pleased with the oppor

The legislature is now in
working order. A good busi
ness man was chosen to preside
over the house in the person of
A. L. Mills, president of the
First National Bank of Portland.
For president of the senate, Dr.
W. . Kuykendall of Lane whs
chosen. This paper has said
that the doctor was not the best
selection possible. It still en
tertains that opinion but bows
obeisance to Dr. Kuykendall as
the candidate who received a
majority of the votes of his fel
low senators. This is a country
of majority rule. In all matters
in which he stands for, the best
interests of the state at large,
President, Kuykendall is en
titled, to commendation. This
paper trusts he will rise , above
the accusation that he sought
the power of presidency of the
senate to use it for political pur
poses or for the benefit of Lane
and iultnoman eounues w me
disregard . of the interests of
other; counties , ,of ,,the t state.
May Dfl Kuykendall provei him
self equfl,,the responsibilities
he has assomed. -
