The Rebekas Lodge indulged in
a general good time at its regular
meeting Tuesday evening after
initiating candidates. A lunch was

E. C. Thurston, of Monmouth,
is to dispose of bis farming utensils
on the 21st inst. by public auction,
and soon after will leave for Port
land, where he will engage in elec
trical engineering.
Hallowe'en's evening the young
ladies of the Y. P. 8. C. E. of the
Christian church entertained the
young men of that organization at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. F. L,
HooDer. A delightful time was

spent in various amusements.
The boys ot the town have organ
ized a football team, and they wil
play a team from the McMinnville
public school this coming Satur
day afternoon. The game will be

south of town. All go out and
help the boys.
The Fireman have arranged to
give a Thanksgiying ball, the 2Gth
inst. at the Auditorium. This is to
be the eyent of its kind during the
winter. The orchestra has giyen
way to the boys, and will furnish
mush for the occasion. All funds,
over expenses, realized from the
dance are to be utilized in securing
proper uniforms for the fire com-
A pleasant feature of Hallowe'en's
evening was the organization of a
young ladies club, and in the
absence of a better name let's call
it the "Independence Order of Holy
Rollers." Tbe young ladies assem
bled at the home of Miss Mary
Clodfelter, where an organization
was perfected. Later they
celebrated the "topsy turvey"
evening by serenading various
houses. Returning to Miss Chjd-
felter's home, they were entertained
at luncheon, and passed a few
moments longer as the guests of
this clever young lady. Next week
another member of the club will
entertain and so on through the
rounds. '
The death of Scott Joobs,
former Independence tinne", was
recently chronicled In Portland
paper. His burial occurred at Salem.
Death resulted from complicated
stomach trouble.

for Los Angles, California, and will
spend some time in Southern Cal
ifornia seeking a location. During
his absence his wife will visit
friends in Portland.

holding a county office at Pomoroy,
Wash., has recently assumed mari
tal obligations with one of
Garfield county's most estimable

W. v W. Percival shipped last
Tuesday a car of sheep, and on last
Thursday he shipped a car each of
sheep and hogs, the threo cars rep
resenting a sum of $2-100. Mr,
Percival brings many a dollar into
the community that would go in
other directions were it not for bis
constant hustling. He is known
to be one of the best stock men in
the state.
Mr. Baetman, the father of the
Misses Bateman, returned from
many months sojourn in Nome,
Alaska. He has done quite well
during his stay with prospects of
a very fine haul from some of his
claims. His daughters will prob
ably remain here to avail them
selves of the excellent schooling
preyileges here and at Monmouth.
