Heck and his wife left Albany on March 10th for Cottage Grove where he opened a shooting gallery. Thy hud resided in Albany several month living at A. L. Ramsey's and Mrs. Howard's rooming houses. Heck was em ployed by J. B. Tillotson as cook in a logging camp on the river below town and was a very' pleasant fel low, lie wa about .'V2 years ofae and had saved up money. Mrs. Heck was a pretty little wmnan about 2 years old and won many friends in this city by her modest and ladylike ways. Short ly before tho couple l"ft hero Mrs. Beck pegan paying attention to one Ed. Strawzer, who was funning a shooting gallery on East First street opposite the Runs House Strawzer made frequent calls upon Mrs. Beck and they appeared more than friendly. Mrs. lieek re mained in Cottage Grove with her husband about two weeks and then told hi in that she was coming dow n to Albany for a few days visit with friends. She failed to stop nt this city and a few days afterward Beck received a letter from her at Woodburn stating that she could not return to him ns she did not love him and told of her admiration for Ed. Strawzer. The latter had moved his shooting gallery to that J place and it is said that he is still there. Beck's body has not been found and it is presumed that he either jumped in the river or killed himself in some secluded spot. His father lives near Monmouth and was in Albany recently. He did not know of his son'ti trouble at that time, and was greatly surpris ed to hear that Beck had threaten ed to commit suicide. He also has two sisters who reside in this city, but they could not be found luht night.
