Of the various kinds of hay grown in Oregon at the present tune, none excel and few approach in excellence, the comparatively new variety known as vetch. So far the growing of this hay haa been merely experimental, but the results have been so favorable that this fall haa witnessed an increase in the acreage sown in the vicinity of Buena Vista and in the other counties Vetch is a kind of wild, rank pea vine, and because of the mattad condition of it when cut. it is diffi cult to handle, and 20 cents per bushel is charged for N threshing. The seed yield ia from SO to 35 bushela per acre, and one I.inn county farmer reports nine tons of hav from one acre of vetch. As a feed for cattle vetch is said to equal both srain and other hay combined; while for hog feed it is superior to anything known. The eastern" states and Eastern Oregon want vetch seed.
