Ranchers in this locality are be coming every Jay more dissatisfied with the yield of grain from their fields and the prices that the wheat and oats command and freijuent remarks are heard about "giving it up," quitting the business. Why not diversify? The day is at hand for farmers to branch out and experiment. The world is going on at a too rapid rate to admit of the farmer standing still. Vetch seed in an adjoining county is sell ing at 1180 per bushel. Wh;it does it mean? It means that vetch u the test hay produced in this section and that its merits are be coming known. Vetch sted is very scarce. That it wiil command a good price next year and many yeors following is but a reasonable and well founded conclusion. Old chickens are 9c and young chickens 10c per 111. and will be considerably higher during the holidays. A poultry journal says CJunt on one bushel of wheat per year to each hen. Wheat is 54 and 55c per bushel, eggs are 25c per dozen in Independence. Why rot try poultry raising? Speltz is a new and first class feed for hogs. The latter ar 6 and 7c per lbs. gross. Speltz is grow ing in popularity as a feed. Good baled hay is selling at a high figure in all towns in this section. It costs 1.50 per ton to bale it. Why not dispose of a big crop in bales? Dairy cows bring in from $3 to $9 each per month for butter fat. It costs about 120 per year to feed a cow. Butter is 7uc per roll at the Independence stores at this date. Country butter is scarce at 2hc per lb. Why not try dairy ing? Peaches eeil in their season for $1 and ifl.50 per bushel. They re quire but little care. Fair apples bring 50c per bushel and all that is nt-eded is t pick them. There are other states which ship more live stock, still others which ship more gtain, dairy products, etc., but, as above stated, no other single state in the Union can show such a diversity of industries pro ducing wealth on such a grand scale.
