Hop grow ers are engaged in refitting their hop houses and having their smoke stacks in pioper shape for the corn ing season. Prospective pickers are preparing for the seasonand the business houses already note an increase in sales. In two or three weeks we shall be in the middle of the hop-picking season. Mr A. W. She is feeling as well as could be expected. The Tillberry boys, the cornet players in the hand, are al th coast at present. On their return they will make preparations for moving onto a farm near Forest Grove. They have been quite a strength to the band and the boys hate to see them leave. Attorney W. H. Powell, of St. Helens, was in Oregon City last Monday. Mr. Powell is well-known in this city, having been principal of the city schools several years ago Oregon City Enterprise. Mr. Powell was principal of the Inde pendence school ft few years ago. Rev. D. M. Metzgar, of Dallas, but rscently from Berkley, Califor nia, where he has been attending a summer school for the past two months, preached in the M. E. church last Sunday evening to a large audience. Mr. Landreth is now engaged iu the barber business at Dixon, Salano (To.. California, and is doing nicely. He is also studying law. Since leaving here six or seven years ago he has run shops in San Francisco, Itossburg. Canada, Pitalumu, XTalilornia and Baker City and Astoria. Ore. He recently took a trip from 'Frisco to the Society and Caroline Islands. Japan and up in Siberia, up the Ochslk sea from Japan, all through Siberia and China.
