M. E. Church
Mother's day services at the M. E.
church last Sunday were well attend
ed. In song and story a tribute was
paid to our mother's love and influ
ence. The lessons taught were whole
some and impressive. The sermon
at the preaching hour was on the
influence of women in the world and
in the training of their children for
Services The comrreeation was
large, as was also the attendance In
the Sunday school, it being beyond
the 100 mark.
The union services in the evening
were largely attended and the address
of the Rev. W. J. Herwig was listened
to with rapt attention. One feature
of the day was the singing of an
original hymn, "Our Mothers" com
posed by H. Underhill. It was well
received.
Services next Sunday will be as
follows:
Sunday school at 10 a. m.
Epworth League at 7 p. m.
Preaching service at 8 p. m.
Prayer meeting and Bible study
every Wednesday evening at 7:30.
Ladies' Aid society meets in the
church parlors every Thursday after

Frank Horn of Marmouth, North
Dakota, accompanied by his family,
has arrived here and has tempora
rily leased the Dave Boydson resi
dence property. Mrs. Horn is a
cousin of Mrs. A. G. Williams. Mr.
Horn is seeking a ranch at some
point in the valley.
The ferry was out of commission
for a short time Monday forenoon.
The cable became uncoupled while
tho craft was in midstream, and it

before going very far. No particular
damage was done, other than some
little inconvenience caused by the
delay and Ferryman Hart soon made
the necessary repairs and trattic was
resumed.
G. G. Godfrey and G. C Smith
have been elected delegates to attend
the state gathering of the American
legion, which will be held in Eugene
the first part of July. Ivan Loughary
and Ira Williams of Monmouth are
the alternates. Extensive prepara
tions are being made by the Eugene
Post for the meeting and the city
council is materially assisting in
the financial part of it.
Salem Journal: Pearl Alexan
der, formeer grocer of Independence,
who has lived in Montana for the
past seven years, was in Salem Tues
day evening. He drove over the
mountains from Montana and will
spend some time looking around in
tho Willamette valley for' a location.
Mr Alexander said it was snowing m
Montana when he left and he does
not want to go back there again only
to remain long enough to move his
family."

Baptist Church Notes
The revival spirit is still going on
at the Baptist church. Though Dr.
Reid is gone, large crowds are at
tending. Our Sunday school meets
at 10 a. m. Mrs. Walker, isuperinten
dent. A class and a teacher for all
ages. At 11 a. m. Rev. Proppe
preaches one of those sermons you
will want to hear, the topic is "Build
ers and Building."
The young peoples society meets
at 7 p. m. This is a good place to
meet fine young people. At 8 p. m.
Rev. Proppe preaches again.
Baptist Social and Supper
Next Wednesday evening, May 18,
there will be a big social and business
meeting at the Baptist church. A
big supper will be served at 6:45 p.
m. This is another' one of those
much enjoyed Baptist mixers to
which so many of us have been look
ing forward to. Come out Sunday
and hear more about it. Begin now
