Mrs. Getty, one of the oldest resi dents of this city, is quite poorly, being confined to her bed most of the time with infirmities of old age Rev. E. E. Gilbert, district super intendent, preached a very able ser mon to a large audience at the M. E. church here Sunday. Mrs. Jessie Martin, who has been at the Lester Murphey home for some time, left for Portland last week, where she will enter the Good Samaritan hospital and take a course as a trained nurse. Mrs. Frank Fisher and little daughter returned Saturday frpm several days stay in Portland. N. C. Anderson -and vflfe, Mrs. G. E. Harmon and daughter and Mr.s E, J, Anderson were among the shop pers in Albany Saturday, the latter remaining over for a week's visit at the Gobat home. Mr. and Mrs. Orville Wells, Clif ford Wells, and Ray Grounds Sun-j dayed with relatives in Salem. Leland Prather (had the ' mis for tune to fall several feet while log ing last week and fractured his left arm near the shoulder and it was necessary for him to go to Port land for medical attention. J. K. Neal is sitting with the jury in Dallas this week. Mr. and Mrs. M. N. Prather were over to Dallas Tuesday attending the Lillian Young daninge case. Harold Reynolds left for Corvallis last week, where he had registered at 0. A. C. taking up a farmer course. ' Ray Ground, a student of the Uni versity of California, is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. P. Grounds, and tfther relativiis here for an extended stav. :-. Polk County Rev, Chris J. Benny has resigned as pastor 'of the Pa Mas Christian church to take a charge at Conrad, Montana. Orville and, Charlie Springsteen, who have been employed for some months past in the Buick auto- inoWLle -works at Flint, Mich., re turned to Dallas Saturday evening and expect to remain in Oregon. Many of the big automobile plants hi the eivt, Ino'uding the Ford and Buick factories, have shut down, throwing many thousands of men atn pu 4iuoiuXodiu jo in Springsteen boys decided to come back to Oregon, where prosperity is still prevalent. Mrs. McGowan spent her holidays with her daughter in Portland. Miss Wilma Shafer spent last ,week with friends in Independence. Miss Othal Bevens spent Christmas with her grandmother at Buena Vista. Major Rose and wife will sail for England where they will stay for three months. Oscar Moore and family had friends from Portland calling on them at Christmas time. Miss Delia Carter of room 1 and Nina Porterfield of room 2 won the Hirschberg dollar this month. Bill Haines wife and daughter spent Christmas with their many friends in the big city of Portland. Our soup kitchen which is managed by Mrs. Susie Carter, is now opened and the warm soup tastes very good these cold mornings. Our school has been closed for a few weeks on account of high water All of the school children have re ported a lovely time and very glad to their school work again. Wade Carter, who recently had the misfortune of breaking his arm, can now take it out of the sling and his school friends will be very glad to see him using his arm and enjoying the school games again.
