And yet this is the attitude of the very eminent high way commission of the state of Ore gon toward Tolk county. The hon orable gentlemen or kiddies who are attempting to run the highways of the state have decreed that this coun tyor county court needs a spank ing, and of course, to officials who appear to feel that their will or de sire must be unquestioned irrespec tive of what measures may have been enacted by the legislature, the shing le is the only remedy. The commission is sorely grieved because the Polk county court will not sanction a stretch of the Pacific highway between Monmouth and Su ver. The commissioners are insist ing that the highway be built south from Monmouth and the county court maintains that it can only be legally built by going from Monmouth to In .lenendence and then south whence v determine. Next week has been officially de signated as American Legion week. It will be a campaign for membership and not a drive for funds. Normal School classes are so overcrowded, rooms so overloaded, and teachers so few, that the three institutions will have to close the door on at least 1000 Ore gon boys and girls, and perhaps upon twice that number next fall, unless the new millage support bill passes on May 21.
