Raspberres There will be an ex J;ensve acreage planted to strawber ries this season and when they come into bearing, which will be in 1920, there will be a generous supply. It might be of general interest to learn that 50 of all the jellies, jams and preserves manufactured throughout the country are from strawberries; 33 from raspberries and the ba lance of 17 from Loganberries, Gooseberries, Curreits and kindred berries. What we desire to impress upon you is the importance and ad visability of greatly increasing the production of Raspberries and Logan berries. In Oregon there are vprv few raspberries grown. In fact, the quantity si so small as to be hardly considered, and it will be many.many years before there will be sufficient supply to meet the requirements of the Oregon manufacturers. There can be but one soluion and that is to plant more raspberries of the Cuth bert variety and when you stop for a moment and consider that we are will ing to pay $190.00 per ton for rasp berries now in beariner and S1f!f nn per ton for new plantings coming in to bearing in 1920 and $140.00 for 1921 and when planted on good soil and ca pable of producing from 3 to R ton per acre, it can readilv be noon fh profits which can be derived there from. We can supply you with plants at $0.00 per 1000, and now is the time to prepare your ground and plant them. BOWER, M. D. You can take an onion seed and a pansy 8eed, and plant them side by sido in the fame spot of ground. In one case, you get an onion, with ita peculiarly strong , odor, and in the other you get a flower of rare beauty. You can plant a poppy seed and get opium (a dangerous, habit-formine drug), or you can plant a rhubarb seed and get something that hefcis constipation. 0 scientist, living or dead, can explain these mysteries of Nature. Behind the invisible life germ in each seed is hidden the deep secret that nobody understands Everything growing out of the ground seems intended for some use in establishing natural conditions.
