Some coughs are produced by a grave organic disease of the lungs. Other coughs are produced by heart disease. An irritable stomach will produce a cough. Stomach coughs are more com mon than is penerally supposed. Catarrh will also produce a cough. Catarrh of the bronchial tubes. Ca tarrh of the larynx. Catarrh of the pharynx. In a catarrhal cough the amount of expectoration is limited. It is not so easy to raise as in cases of organic dis eases of the lungs. It may be frothy or stringy mucus, difficult to expecto rate. People will go on for months with this sort of a cough and give it no attention. Ordinary cough medicines that are intended to lull the sensitive nerves that are irritated by the catarrh will do no good. In fact, they do, harm. What is needed is Peruna, which strikes at once at the cause of such a cough. Peruna is a catarrh remedy. As soon as the catarrh is removed from the throat and bronchial tubes the cough disappears. Usually the directions on the bottle are sufficient. In some cases where the cough is very continuous and an noying a tablespoonful every hour is a better way to take it But a multitude of people who are suffering with this sort ot cough and yet going about their usual business need only take the Peru na according to the directions on the bottle. WAS WITHIN PALE OF LAW Unfeeling Father Burled Child as On Might a Dog, but He Could Not Be Punished. Can a man be punished for falling to provldo a Christian burial for his deceased Infant child 7 In the recent case of Beaton vs. commonwealth, 149 Southwestern Reporter, 871, defend ant was convicted on such a charge, and appeals to the court of appeals of Kentucky, the docket states. A child of the defondant having died, he set about to bury it. Taking some piece of rough board, be made a rude box to serve as a coffin. Although be bad good lumber out of which he could bave made a better and more presentable box, be said that be did not propose using his good lumber for this purpose. This box was taken to a point in the woods lot and a grave dug by two neighbors about two feet deep. Defendant brought the corpse from the bouse In a small pa per box to where the grave was be ing dug, placed it upon the ground and assisted in digging the grave. When completed, the paper box with the corpse was placed In the wooden box and lowered. The grave was then filled to a level with the surrounding ground, defendant assisting by tramp ing the dirt as It was being put back Into the grave. No services of any kind were beard at the grave. Do these facts consti tute a crime? The court holds that It wai the right of the defendant to select the place where his child should be burled, and be Tlolated no law or duty In selecting a spot la the woods rather than In a cemetery. There 1b no rule of law defining how a corpse shall be dressed for burial, or the character of coffin or casket la which It should be Incaeed, or the ma terial out of which the box In which the coffin Is to be placed shall be made, nor the depth of the grave; nor Is it an offense not to notify relatives aua friends so that they may be pres ent at the Interment, for they have no legal right to be present. There Is no law Imposing upon those having In charge the burial of the dead any duty to have the interment accompanied with religious ceremony. The court concludes with the following: "It was no doubt the extremely miserly and niggardly disposition manifested by appellant that aroused the Indignation of his neighbors, causing the indict ment, and ultimately Induced the Jury to assess the fine against him which It did. While, by the facts 1n the record, appellant is shown to be man utterly lacked in parental in stinct, he bas kept himself within the pale of the law. At the conclusion of the evidence the trial Judge should bave directed a verdict In his favor." Public Men and Sleep. The declaration of Doctor Foertmey er of Cincinnati, that seven hours ol sleep are enough for any man, and that the fellow who indulges himself in the arms of Morpheus for a longer period every night is in danger of in juring himself, comes so closely upon the heels ot President Wilson's flat that he must have nine hours that It is certain to start a controversy al most to end nowhere, for if there Is one thing in which every man is a law unto himself. It is in the matter of sleep. Ex-President Taft, normal man in ev ery respect, enjoys as much sleep as President Wilson needs. Apparentlj there is no reason why President Wtt son should not Bleep as long as be likes, for Mr.. Taft does. He retires at midnight usually, and arises only in time for a nine o'clock breakfast; so it will be seen that the routine of a president's day is not incompatible with feather bed indulgence. McKln ley was a light sleeper, being a night owl and an early riser, while Grover Cleveland dearly loved to sit up until a late hour with a few cronies, evi dently being of the opliion, as the poet has it, that the best way to lengthen one's days Is to steal a few hours from the night. Bashful Youth Obeyed Orders. He was a nervous and flustered young 'man as he entered the couri to give evidence in. an Important case. It was his first experience of pub licit y In any shape or form, and the amount of interest shown In his utter ance he who had never even ad dressed a meeting of the local debat Ing Bociety went straight to hii head. His replies, to say the least ol It, were unintelligible. "Speak up! Speak up!" called coun sel Irritably at last "The lady short hand writer cannot hear a slngli word of what you're saying. Kindly turn towards her and speak to her." There was a moment's pause, while the young man blushed vividly. Then, to the amusement of the court, he rose from his chair, made a profound obeisance in the direction of tha aforesaid mentioned young; woman, and murmured bashfully: ' "How d'you do?" The preparation of nlxtamal by hand Is quite laborious, the Mexican wom en of the peon class spending a fair proportion of each day mashing the day's supply of nixtamal on a metate with a stone rolling pin after it has been prepared for this process by be ing boiled with lime. Nlxtamal is the name of the corn itself after having been so treated; after grinding It is known as masa. As the tortillas and tamales made from masa prepared in the manner described form the staple diet of the Mexican people, a machine for the easy preparation of nlxtamal ought to find a wide sale. The countryside rushed to purchase, and the merchants, having disposed of all their stock, departed. Then within a day or two the purchasers were at tacked by a strange sIcknesB, and died by scores. HOW I MADE MY HAIR GROW Woman With Marvelonsly Beautiful Hair Gives Simple Home Prescrip tion Which She Used With Most Remarkable Results. I was greatly troubled with dandruff and falling hair. I tried many advertised hair preparations and varioua prescriptions, but they all signally failed: many of them made my hair greasy so it was impossible to comb it or do it up properly. I think that many of the thing's I tried wera posi tively injurious and from my own experience I cannot too stronirly caution you against using preparations containing- wood alcohol and other poisonous aubstances. I believe they injure the roots of tha hair. After my long list of failures, I finally found a simple prescription which I can unhesitatingly state is beyond doubt the most wonderful thing for the hair I have ever seen. Many of my friends have also used it, and ob tained wonderful effecta therefrom. It not only is a powerful stimulant to the growth of the hair and for restoring gray hair to its natural color, but it is equally good for removing dandruff, giv ing the hair life and brilliancy, etc., and for ths purpose of keeping the scalp in fjat-clas con dition. It also makes the hair easier to comb and arrange in nice form. I have a friend who used it two months and during that time it has not only stopped the falling of his hair and wonder fully increased its growth, but it practically re stored all of his hair to its natural color. You can obtain the ingredients for making thia wonderful preparation from almost any druggist. The pre scription is as follows: Bay Rum. 6 oz.; Menthol Crystals, H drachm; Lavona de Gomposee', 2 oz. If you like it per fumed add a few drops of To-Kalon Perfume, which mixes perfectly with the other ingredients. This, however, is not necessary. Apply night and morning; rub thoroughly into the scalp. Go to your druggist and ask for an eight ounce bottle containing six ounces of Bay Rum; also one half drachm of Menthol Crystals, and a two-ounce bottle of Lavona de Composee'. Mix the ingre dients yourself at your own home. Add the Men thol Crystals to the Bay Rum and then pour in the Lavona de Composee' and add the To-Kalon Perfume. Excellent Servant of the Cook Must Have Proper Treatment, and This Advice Is Good, Before using a casserole for the first time, it is well to temper it; this is best done by covering it with cold watr. Then letting the water come to the boiling point, remove from the fire, and let the casserole remain In the water until It is cold. Under no circumstances let the cas serole be put on the stove without water or fat in it; if this is done the dish will crack. , Avoid sudden changes of tempera ture with the casserole; that is, do not take it from the hot stove or oven and place it In cold water or in a wet sink; this will prove disastrous to the dish. Casserole cooking require only moderate heat; it something is being cooked in the casserole at the same time that intense heat is required for something else, take the precau tion of setting the casserole in a pan of water. In cooking anything in a casserole It is well to allow twice the time for cooking that would be required were the atew or vegetables or fruit cook ed in the ordinary way.
