This week it becomes nec essary to retra t the statement. We were sincere in our part of the tran ln and apparently Schmltt & Mc Millen were equally siiieere, au they paid $200 down when terms of agree ment were reached, but they have keen unable to secure a loan either to Independence or Sprague,t.i expect ed, consequently failed to close the deal and take Possession at the time agreed upon and expected. The new firm was to tafce posses sion the first of June. Monday Mc Millen iiformed us that they were unsuccessful in securiing the money required.and thjv. if his partner, Mr Schmitt, did not make a raise within two days he was going to throw tha whole thing up. The '"raise" has not been made and the natural as sumption Is that they have abandon ed the idea. As stated in the article we had no intention of leaving fcidependence,nor did we expect to vacate the building wherein the Enterprise is published. We are aware of the fact that Inde pendence does not want two papers, and will not afford ample support for two, but we received sufficient en couragement from the business men THE RIGHT MAN Favoritism to none, equXlty to all strict enforcement of law s, to con duct the office In harmony with other jounty and municipal offices, and systematic, economical r.d efficient administration, is the platform upo which J. W. Orr of Rh kreall, stands in making his ctunpalgn and upon the same principles he txpects to be elected sheriff for Polk county. If he cannot be elected on these prin ciples he does not want to b elected it all.
