Boise, Idaho IntereM In election In
Idaho centered entirely about the gub
ernatorial contest which wan the on!)
junta office concerning which any
doubt existed to the result Aggres
sive cninpa'gna have been made by
both Governor James M. Brady, re
publican nominee for re-election, and
James H. Hawley, his democratic op
ponent The campaign hinged on the liquor
question, the republican platform de
claring In favor of submitting a con
stitutional amendment providing for
state wide prohibition, and the dem
ocrats standing pat on the present
county local option law. The llnei
re clearly drawn between the "wets '
and "dry" forces, and because of this
Indications point to Brady's election.
Governorship In Doubt
The election of Governor James
H. Brady, republican. Is in doubt.
Returns from the southeast Indicate
the Mormon counties are voting the
democratic ticket They have cut
Into the Brady majority with vital ef
fect and the returns from there have
revived Interest at democratic state
headquarters, where i was practically
conceded Brady was elected.
Fremont county will give Hawley,
democrat for governor, a majority oi
between S00 to 500. Bannock county
returns indicate Hawley will pull out
with 600 majority. He will also carry
Bingham county. It Is believed. Be
sides Ada it Is known Canyon, El
more and Boise counties will be car
ried by Brjdy.
"The forecasted landslide for either
Brady or Hawley failed to mature.
The result as now plainly evident
means that the eleventh legislature
nrtll be largely republican and will
- pass an amendment to the state con
stitution allowing the people to Tote
on statewide prohibition two years
Although Hawley has evidently car
ried Boise City by a small majority,
- the lead Is not sufficient to offset the
i. big majorities expected and are com
. ing in from the country precincts fav
orable to Brady. Hawley's lead in
the city, which is strongly "wet" was
less than 1000 majority.
