Bids lor the bonds from two difre.:t .houses are now in the hands of the city board to be opened this coming Saturday night. May 14. at 7:30 i'c!ock. The streets are not at this tinie in course of paving, but are in immedi ate prospect, and another twelve months will not elapse before plans will assume definite form. The Rev. Dr. Bell no doubt assumed fro.ii the amount of river gravel, scattered a.bout the city where numerous buna instead of cross streets only and bus! ness blocks. In a true sense we have been paving. First class sidewalks are being laid and many are the new buildings now in course of construction as stated by the aged and respected minister. A $15,000 high school is not only to be built at once but active opera tions have begun on it.' The grounds liave been purchased, consisting of a little more than eight and a half acres. PJans and specifications art new in the hands of the school di rectors. The bonds have been sold at a premium. Bids for construct.on are now being advertised in this pa per. Independence looks good to the En terprise as well as it does to Rev. Dr. Bell. It Iooks good to the state at large, Judging from the many pre.s comments which it is-getting from all over. There is no other town ic the Willamette valley which pof-sefises more natural promise than dots tue city of Independence. It -wilt abundantly fulfill all promises if the city will keep abreast the devel opment of the surroundings. Large :oi..me:viat orchards are being plant ed within rifle shot of the city and the finest cattle of the world are :uow on their way to the very limits of the city where they will form the ionization of a better herd than the .n, th Nelsons recently sold at auc tion. Walnut groves comprising many acr s are being set out right bere anst the city. These groves and orchards will raise land va'ues adja cent tc this city from $100 to $1500 an acre, and tnis within fifteen years. Th . is a positve fact. The opportun ities right here are so wonderfully ex travagant that it is not surpfsiug they are not recognized. It re , -res fhe new blood that is pouring; in to show the possibilities of the future. The improvements which Rev. Dr. Bell stated wre in course of con structiop are in fact actual an1 they will all be under way within another twelvemonth. FREE GOVERNMENT LAND Do you ever long for a home of -your own, where there is plenty of good water, good grass, and plenty of trademarks Chlmgo started the game with its "I wiil." The Syracuse chamber, while it has no oCicial motto, favors "Syra cuse spells success." at times uniuK current shun,' for Us purpose In "It you're in Syracuse you're iu liRht." Wailu VVall.i cari-ic alliteration a decree further in "What Walla Walla wants is you." Kl rat- advises succinctly "Kl Paso the pas.-; don't pass El Paso.". The slogan whic h indicates prowl li and prosperity is more popular. I'bac reminder to all tourists of its remark... -ble;idvance In population, "Watch 'la coma grow." is probably the be.-t unowu of all city uioitoes.
