Harvesting is now well under way around Monmouth and lots of grain is going into the shock. F. Y. Mulkey is assisting! in a store at Newport. Summer school is progressing nicely and it seems a pity not to continue the school next fall when the state already has such, a well equipped building that will stand idle. A first class teacher Is giving in structions In vocal and instrumental music. He is located near the depot. Roy Smith came home from Salem last Thursday slightly indisposed and Raney Burkhead went over to take his place iu the bakery. Prof. A. D. Butler and wife visited last week with his sisters. Misses Alice and Maggie Butler, while en route from the fair at Seattle to their home at Napa City, Call., where Mr. Butler is president of a school. C. S. They ex pect to go to the Phillips ranch near Woods, where they will camp for a few weeks. Company H left last Saturday for the summer encampment of the Ore gon Natkmal Guards, now being held on the new target range in the vi cinity of Gladstone. Dr. B. H. McCallon and family have gone to Ocean Park where they will spend a few weeks. They were ac companied by a sister of the Doctor from Tennessee. Hugh and Roy Black left for Port land last Saturday for the purpose of proving up on their homesteads which are located In Yamhill county. E. L.
