AIRLIL* A fte r an illness o f many months duration, Mr. M. B. Weaver, a highly respected farmer residing south o f here, passed away at the family home on Thursday. Mr. Weaver came to Oregon about twelve years ago from California and he and his fam ily have been de vout members of the Mennonite I church. His w ife and children have the sympathy o f the entire commun ity in their grief. Mr. L. Toedemeier, Sr. met with a very painful accident on Wednes day when the steering gear of his car became impaired and the ma chine pluged down an embankment. The mishap will confine Mr. Toede meier to his home for some time. A t the yearly conference in Salem of the Evangelical church, Rev. F. A Fisher was assigned to the Airlie and Lewisville charges, and Rev. Ballan- tyne was assigned to the Laurel, Or. church. May Day festivities will be fea t ured Friday, May 4th. Miss Dod son will be crowned as Queen of the May in the early afternoon, after which there will be a Maypole dance by the primary room and some aes thetic dancing by some of the high school students. A fte r these events athletic sports o f all kinds will be enjoyed. The evening will be occu pied by some sort o f party or pro gram. The high school is putting forth much effort in rehearsing the two plays to be put on Thursday even ing, May the third. There is friend ly rivalry among the students as to which will be the better staged, and a vote will be taken by the audience on this. About twenty students are taking part in these plays. Saturday the students expect to go on a “ hiking picnic” . Sulphur Springs in the Benton County hills is to be their objective. OAK* POINT* Miss Jessie Kester and Miss*Emma Conger spent the week end with Miss Roberta Peterson. A May Day program was given by the pupils o f the Oak Point school last Saturday evening. The import ant numbers were winding the May pole, crowning the queen, and the singing o f songs which fit the occa sion. A large crowd attended. Prof. Beattie of the Normal gave the lower grades an intelligence test last week. We expect good results. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Jones and family o f Walla Walla visited with Mr. and Mrs. Roy Bigelow on their way to California. Mr. Smith, who is working for Mrs. J. A.
