A majority of Congress favored the repeal of the daylight saving act but it could not muster the neces sary two thirds to pass the bill over the president's veto, the final vote standing 247 to 135 in favor of re peal. Thus with the help of the president the minority rules. Country people have favored the re peal of the law for they never have wasted any daylight and consequent ly, need not save in that regard. They regard it as a.i imposition that citv people should force hardship on them to save that which they could save for them selves if they would change their own working hours. Ann Jane Cooper, who was one of the oldest pioneers of this section, died at her home in Independence, Monday, July 7. She was one of the family for whom Cooper Hollow was named. With her husband she crossed the plains in 1853 and set tled in the hollow, living there un til 1868 when they moved to Inde pendence. Her maiden name was Stewart and she was born in Maine in 1831. Shortly after her birth her parents moved to Illinois and in 1849 went to Missouri to live where she met and married Harbin M. Cooper. The latter died in 1904.
