He will stay in Idaho until fall and reports that he likes it there very much. John V. Bennes. the Portland architect, was in Monmouth Thursday starting the prelimina ries for the new addition to the Normal. The old report of a new pict ure house on Main street was re vived by assertions made by Peter Kurre of Independence on the occasion of a visit to Mon mouth. Saturday. The members of the Christian Endeavor of the Christian church entertain Endeavorers from all parts of Polk county at a county convention Saturday and Sunday it being the second convention of the organization. The program can be found on another page. , Captain W. A. Elkins, chaplin, Oregon Coast Guard has received a communication from a superi or officer stating that applicants for enlistment in the artillery may sign applications and will be admitted when new companies are formed. Applicants will have to stand physical examination at the time the new companies are formed. These application blanks may be obtained from Mr. Elkins. Osborne is planning on sowing 25 acres to flax this spring. Miss Rose Page visited rela tives near Monmouth, Saturday and Sunday. Elmer Allen and wife were guests of friends in Monmouth Sunday. A school rally will be held at Perrydale May 11th and it is re quested by the County Superin tendent that as many schools as possible be dismissed on that day so that the teachers may at tend. In the forenoon the work will be that of the regular zone meetings and the afternoon pro gram will consist of a program by the Perrydale school and a field meet. Following Is an out line of the afternoon program: Foot race for high school boys. Prize, five and ten cent tablet and two lead pencils. Sack race for boys under 16. Prize, a fifty cent box of candy. Foot race for boys below high school. Trize, a poeket-kniU'. Foot race for girls under 10 years of age. Prize, three yards of hair ribbon. Three prizes for best loaves of . bread. Prizes, 10-pound sack of graham flour. Bread to be toked from flour made at Perry dale Flour Mills.
