Miss Amy Steinberg1, who is teaching at Dufur, is home for the holidays. There were many Christmas trees in Monmouth and vicinity this year, as usual. Miss Bessie Foster is spending the holidays with her grandmoth er and Monmouth relatives. All trains were late in and about Christmas time and the mails were very irregular. E. F. Griffa arrived from Jef ferson last Thursday and left Saturday for Puyallup, Wash., to visit at the soldier's home. From there he goes to Everett, Wash. Dr. Frank Butler and family are moving from Portland to Medical Lake, Washington, where they will be located in the future. Ranie Burkhead and Miss Mar garet Rice of Shaniko and Glenn Work of The Dalles are here for the Christmas holidays. Tom Ostieh of Deering and Miss Mable Johnson of Butte Falls are home for the Christmas vacation. Jesse Simpson of Portland spent Christmas with his mother, Mrs. R. H. Simpson, in Mon mouth. Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Ostien and son Tom left Wednesday for Portland to attend the state teaohers' meeting. There are three times as many cows contributory to Monmouth as there were when the local creamery was established eight years ago. With reports of snow all around us Monmouth has had a portion although so far such asremains is confined mostly to the roofs of buildings. Miss Mabel West of the Nor mal faculty and her mother left Tuesday for Long Beach, Calif., where the latter will spend the winter. The Monmouth Boy Scouts are preparing a brace of comic enter tainments to be given January 26th and 27th. There will be a change of program each night but tumbling stunts will appear on both programs. Albert E. Alderman returned Tuesday from Amity where he attended the dedication of a country school near that town. The school house is located near the line between Yamhill and Polk counties and is called the Yam-Po school. The Oregon Normal School is enjoying a vacation of two weeks. This week the attraction of the state educational association in Portland Has drawn most of the Normal faculty to that city. Nearly all of the students have departed for their homes in dif ferent parts of the state although a few remain. There is only one girl left in the dormitory. Christian Church Notes "What Can You Do?" will be the subject of the morning dis course next Sunday. "What Has the Past Year Meant to Me?" will be the even ing subject Bible School at 10 a. m. Endeavor at 6:30 p. m. Mid-week service Wednesday evening.
