Larson's family is having a siee of the measles. Mr. C. Nelson is getting five acres of land ready for the plow. Mr. Shatto and Bon Francis are cutting wood for Mr. F. K. Hull. Mr. J. F. Smith visited with his son, Charlie Smith of Elkins. Ed Brown of North Dallas spent a week with his sister, Mrs. A. H. Alsip. Mr. Nelson sawed wood for Mr. A. Hi Alsip last week. Mr. and Mrs. C. Nelson visited in the north end of the county last week. Miss Hazel Bursell spent Sat urday and Sunday in Dallas. Mr. F. K. Hull is going to clear up some more plow land. Monmouth Heights Elmer Allen arid wife were north bound passengers for Carl ton Friday where they are spend ing the holidays with relatives. Len Fishback, who is attend ing the Bible University at Eu gene, is spending his vacation at his home here. Dick Ogle and son Carl were in Monmouth on business Friday. Mrs. D. M. Calbreath is on the sick list. The' Fishback. children spent Christmas day with their sister, Mrs. Lettie Johnson, at Elkins. Forest Barnes and family of Corvallis and Ebb Marks and wife of Bowersville ate Christ mas dinner with Allen Towns and wife. George Heck and family 'spent Christmas day with Mrs. DeWitt of Monmouth. Roy Johnson of Bowersville visited relatives here last week. J. W. Skeen of Monmouth was here on business Tuesday. Mrs. Frona Housman and daughter Mvrtle of Monmouth were first of the week visitors with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Bosley. Gregory Paul of 0. A. C. is spending his vacation with J. B. Stump. Several from here were shop ping in Monmouth Saturday. Cheesemaker Married The following from the Ore gonian, dated Marshfield, is of interest to many Monmouth peo ple: Miss Hazel Manwaring, known throughout the state as the only woman cheesemaker, was mar ried November 30 to James Col lier, foreman for the Southern Pacific bridge crews. The bride was a resident of Langlois for several years, . and conducted cheese factories at Euchre Creek and Monmouth, doing all the work herself. Mr. Collier is well known as an expert football and baseball play er, and was with the San Jose State League Club two years ago. Repair work on the Independ ence concrete bridge has been rushed to completion and the work was finished last week. W. F. Campbell's automobile and an S. P. gas hand car while attempting to cross Monmouth street at tne same place Tuesday forenoon, collided. Eight men were riding on the hand car and seeing their predicament fell in all directions when the collision occurred, but fortunately no one was hurt Mr. Campbell's car was slightly damaged. Enter prise. ' i Oregon's harvest of prunes brought more money to the state this year than any other horti cultural product. Forty million pounds of prunes were processed for which the growers receive over nine millions of dollars. Because of lack of interest, the exhibitors having dwindled from 50 to 10, it has been decided not to hold an annual poultry show for Polk county this January. Instead, an effort will be made to have a show with exhibitors embracing Marion, Linn, Yam hill, Washington and Polk. NOTICE Notice is hereby given that the- shareholders of the First National Bank of' Monmouth, Oregon, will hold their annual meeting at the banking house in Monmouth, on Tuesday, January the 9th, 1917, at 1:30 P.
