Mrs. Winter Davidson of Ban don, who was in attendance at the state session of Rebekahs at Roseburg is visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Smith. A Mr. Stone and family have moved into the C. P. Cornwell house. The stones are recently of Montana and have a daughter who will enter the Normal. Will Wright of East Oregon, a brother-in-law of W. E. Smith is visiting with the latter. Mr. Wright was a delegate to the Odd Fellows' grand lodge in ses sion at Roseburg last week. There was a union young peo ple's service in the Evangelical church last Sunday evening, the societies from the Christian churches in Monmouth and Ind ependence and of the Baptist church joining with the Evangel ical young folks for the evening. A similar meeting will be held in the Christian church next Sun day evening. E. W. Strong shipped a car of oak logs to Portland last Friday. The shipment originated at Air lie and was consigned to the Crown Willamette Paper Co. The logs were to be turned and the smallest log was 28 inches in di ameter. Glen Stone is sharpening up his shears and razor and will take the position of Fred Steinbers when that gentleman Back from Grand Lodge H. K. Sickafoose returned Sat urday from his visit to the grand lodge sessions of the Rebekahs and Odd Fellows in Roseburg last week and reports interesting seesions of both organizations but with no startling event in either in the way of new regulations or legislation. During the session Mr. Sickafoose realized his am bition of the past few years when he secured an office in the grand lodge. He was appointed grand lodge. He was appointed grand herald. As the custom is to ad vance officers this appointment is apt to lead to progressive honors Henry S. Westbrook of Port land who will be remembered as the speaker in Monmouth at the time of the anniversary meeting, was chosen grand master of the state Odd Fellows for the com ing year. Past Master John W. hall of Marshfield who was suc ceeded, was chosen as represent ative the soverign grand lodge. Delegates from Monmouth who attended the Rebekah grand lodge which convened at Rose burg during the same week were Mesdames J. L Murdock, and Ed. Moore & Walker, Home Furnishers, Independence. The Oregon Milling and Ware house company has put in seven miles of tile on its three hundred acre farm north of Monmouth. They put in one hundred acres of grain last fall and another hund red acres this spring and to house the harvest they are building an otner barn, lhe new barn is to be a big one and has a basement 50x70 and the whole structure will cover about three times that area of ground space. There was a large congrega tion out at the evening service at the Christian church Sunday, the same being the last appearance in a Monmouth pulpit of Rev. Geo. Ritchey.
