Mr. Swope is a man of ability and integrity and will make a g.od official should he secure the office. National Forest Business for the Year 1915 According to the annual report of Henry S. Graves, Chief For ester, for the fiscal year ended June 30, 1915, the national forest receipts for the year amounted to $2,481,40.35. no increase, so the reiort says, in the value of western stumpage TRAIN NO. during the past eight years, and , hence no ground for a general 1 advance in the prices of national j 3 forest timber. The timber sold , to settlers and farmers at cost, brought an average of 74 cents per thousand board feet. In dis trict 6 this class of material brings 50 cents per thousand board feet and 25 cents per cord for cord wood. The receipts for grazing per mits show an increase of $127, 091 over 1914, due partly to the increase in fees charged for graz ing of cattle and horse.?, and part ly to the increased number of the former. Improved methods, have increased the carrying ca pacity of the range. Perhaps the most striking feature of the national forest grazing business is the increase in the number of livestock associations cooperating with the Forest Service. They numbered 22G at the end of the fiscal year, an increase of CO over 1914. In District 6, there are 44 of these associations cooperating with the Service. The Forester points out that the desire on the part of stockmen to be thus recognized by the Forest Service emphasizes their general satis faction with the grazing admin istration, and adds that this co operation has been very benefi cial to the Service in working out many grazing problems.
