Hudson, who moved here a year ago to school his children. arrived from his Eastern Oregon farm Wednesday, for a visit with his family. A. N. Poole, wife and children were visiting friends at Corvallis last Sunday. Mr. Poole is work ing on his contract at the Parker school house. Mrs. M. Cornelius and daugh ter Helen went to Portland last Wednesday afternoon where the former will purchase her fall stock of millinery. J. V. Webber is working with the carpenters on the training school. We understand that the contractor will hire Monmouth citizens as much as possible. C. G. Griffa is having his new house made ready by the time Normal school starts again and has W. F. Some three different parties saw the person look through the window. Mrs. P. H. Johnson, daughters. Mable and Velma, and son, Hal- he, left for Newport Monday for a two week's outing. Batching doesn t appeal to Mr. Johnson and he is staying at the hotel. 0. C. Zook and wife were hindred in starting for their visit to Nebraska last Tuesday as Mrs. Zook became ill Sunday evening. She is better again and they think of starting Saturday or Sunday. A. II. Craven and wife and Miss June Hess returned home from Cascadia Tuesday and left yesterday for a visit with Mrs. Craven's people at Bandon. Mr. Craven will take a hunt while on the coast Henry Beebe of Bridgewater, South Dakota, daughter Mrs. James E. Bard of Miller, S. D., and Mr. and Mrs. John Dickin son of Independence were the guests last Saturday of Mr. and Mrs. James Graham." James Hodge, wife and son of Wicheta, Oklahoma, were the guests of the Winegar family for a couple of days, leaving for Mc- Minnville Sunday. Mr. Hodge and Mrs. Winegar are brother and sister and had not seen each other for twenty three years. Mr. Hodge is a station agent and could get but thirty days off, hence, could not stay long as he had relatives to visit at McMinn ville and Tacoma. They will re turn east by way of San Francisco. Guin and Guy Scheible left here yesterday for the Alsea country on a hunting trip. They expect to return in about ten days. David North accompanied Mrs. W. E. Smith and Miss Maggie Butler to Albany Wednesday afternoon returning in the even ing. They made the trip by auto. P. J. Mulkey and wife. Miss Mildred Force and Mrs. L. W. Waller and Allen T. Clark were 'ortland visitors Tuesday for a couple of days having gone down 1 by auto. Mayor Johnson and L. C. Fisk: are credited with dedicating the ; training school. Fisk said it was a success; that the team drove well and that Johnson was a good hand with the scoop, although a , little rusty. Mrs. W. H. Mack and Mrs. Ella Thorpe were in attendance at the revival services at the Christian Church at Independ ence Monday night. Others from here are attending and good sermons are reported. Mr. and Mrs. Post and two daughters and a son, of Drain, were the guests of Mr. Ind Mrs. John A. Riddell for a short time Monday having stopped here on their way to Portland.
