Zook and daughter, Doris, and Mrs. An drew Aynes and Mrs. Frank Skeen drove to Dallas to do some trading Tuesday. Cal Holem, W. E. Smith, Ed GriHa and E. M. Ebhert were fishing at Heaver Creek, Sunday, and brought back about 75 fish as a result of their outing. Sam Morrison, of Indepen dence, was in Monmouth Tues day morning, driving a young horse which he was breaking and made the rural route trip with A. F. Huber that day. Mrs. F. P. Pyles, of McMinn ville, was in Monmouth Monday. She has launched out into the real estate business. Mr. Pyles was here the next day, ' repre senting the Armur Meat Co. An interesting musical pro gram was given by pupils of Miss Elizabeth Read at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Staats Thursday evening, April 23. Miss Read's class at Airlie will give a pro gram at the Airlie hall the even nig of May 1. Mr. and Mrs. C. Lorence and daughter, Hazel, and son, Jen nings, autoed to Monroe Sunday to visit Miss Mabel Lorence, who teaches school in that place. Miss Ruby Lorence, who attends the 0. A. C, and her friend, Miss Alta Floyd, accompanied them from Corvallis. The fleet in Vera Cruz is said to be the greatest aggregation of drink-naughts ever gathered un der any flag. More than two hundred and twenty conventions, at which more than 500,1)00 accredited delegates are expected to as semble, will meet at San Fran cisco during the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915. Rural Carrier Examination The United States Civil Serv ice Commission announces an open competitive examination to take place at Dallas, Oregon, on Saturday, May 25, 1914, as a re sult of which it is expected to make certification to fill a vacan cy in 1 he position of rural carrier at Independence, Oregon, and other vacancies as they may oc cur on rural routes in Polk coun ty.
