Paul Riley was in town Mon day and purchased a land plaster seeder of Winetrar & Lorence. Allen Towns came in from the Antioch neighborhood, Saturday, and supplied his customers with apples. Arthur Burkhead, Tom Ostien and Ruby Lorence returned to Corvallis, Monday, after spending their vacation at home, to com mence their second semester at 0. A. C. Mr. G. H. Estey, of Eastern Oregon, who has been here for some time is calculating on re turning, the latter part of this week or the first of next, to his . claim in Lake County. Mr. Es tey is a former resident of Mon mouth, having lived here for the past four years. The High School basketball team of this place met the Y. M. C. A. second basketball team, of Salem, on the home court-, Satur day night, and although the home team put up a strong fight they suffered defeat by a score of 10 to 6. The Salem team had the advantage of the Monmouth boys in weight and height. Iiillie McAdams. that genial gentleman, who peddles soda water, peanuts and chewing gum, who runs at large with his face crammed into a smile, escorted a bunch of dogs and some other citizens of our quiet hamlet on a merry chase after a lone jack rabbit, Sunday. From the fusil lade of shot that continued throughout the day one could easily imagine himself sitting on some lonely spot in Old Mexico watching a Spanish battle. Link wras in Airlie, Sat urday. Lula Peterson, who has been out of school for some time, re entered Monday. Carl and Frank Story, Emmit Norton and Netta and Oscar Calkins, who have been attend ing school at " Corvallis, came home the last of the week to spend their mid-year vacation. Mrs. Tom Williams, from near Monmouth, is visiting relatives at this place. Mrs. Rose has .bought Mr. Shewey's place in town in order to have more room for her board ers. Mr. Bush, who is keeping books for the logging camp, was in town the last of the week. A number of people from here went to the Minstrel show at Dallas, Monday. A great game of baseball was played at Tartu ville, the score being 56 to 38. Waymond Williams, of Inde pendence, was visiting relatives and friends in Airlie the past week. Mr. Williams was from the Independence school at mid year. The dance given here Friday was well attended. Vere Staats attended the shoot ing match at Pedee, Saturday. Quite a number from here are on the jury at Dallas this term of court. Kennith Williams was at Phi lomath a few days last week. Webster and Emma Beeber, of Lewisville, entered Airlie High School, Monday. They have been attending Dallas High School. Zetta Bush was a Kings Valley visitor, Saturday and Sunday.
