The business houses closed yesterday afternoon in Monmouth to observe Decoration day. John Alberts and P. Morrison, insurance men from Portland, were in Monmouth Tuesday. A. L. Raines and W. B. Cobb, of Falls City, were Monmouth visitors this week. A. C. Hampton, a former Mon mouth boy, has again been chosen principal of the Pendleton school. Verd Hill, Democratic candi date for representative of Polk County, was on our streets Wednesday. T. Mrs. Edith Cramer, of Falls City, is the guest of L. M. Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Sacre and son returned home from Crook county Monday evening, where Mr. and Mrs. Sacre taught school 9 during the .winter. Mr. Sacre purposes to attend summer school here. T. Clean-up day came and has gone and Monmouth i3 looking much better because of the effort that was made and now that the good work has begun, keep it up and our city will become a place of beauty. Dr. Heisley, of Salem, will be in Monmouth Monday, Wednes day and Friday afternoons of each week and will have office in the Hotel. Will also give treat ment at the homes of patients. The doctor is of the osteopathic school of practice. Consultation and examination free. r. Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Young and Armine, of McNary Station, were in town Wednesday looking after Mr. Young's lot at the cemetery. They returned home the same day. The Normal school carried out a very pleasing program Wednes day in lieu of Decoration day, at which the members of the G. A. R. were in attendance. A very pleasant occasion was the verdict of those attending. Rev. C. F. Swander. of Port land, secretary of the State Missionary Society of the Chris tian Church, will preach at the Christian Church, next Sunday, both at the morning and evening services. A cordial invitation is extended to the public. Miss Laura Kohnke, of Salem, spent the week under the paren tal roof, in this place.
