From the Bandon Recorder we learn that operations are inaugu rated to sink an oil well on Bear Creek some four miles from Ban don. Messrs Roy Coulter and Clyde Gibbs of Dallas, were visitors to Newport over Sunday passing back home Monday. Misses Edith and Leto VVolver- ton, Agnes Haef and Mrs. Agnes Daily returned home Monday from Newport well pleased with their visit to the seashore. Work at the Whiteaker oil well is moving slowly, and word came in this week that it will probably be necessary to stop and get the water shut off before advancing much further. J. I. Jones, a farmer living near Powell Buttes, 17 miles east of Bend, has perfected an inven tion whereby power may be ap plied to all four, wheels of ' an automobile instead of only to the two rear wheels as at present. Those who have seen the inven tion states that it not only works well, greatly increasing the mo tive power obtainable from the engine, but that it permits" the application of an improved steer ing appliance. Mr. Jones has ap plied for a patent, and has re ceived favorable advice from the patent office concerning t his ap plication. -Cloverdale Courier. Endicott, of Crquille returned last Friday from upper Rock creek, where they had been'enjoying a hunting and fishing outing, They had much success, both with fish and game, and enjoyed the time very much. Dr Endicott reports hav ing killed a freak deer-a doe with horns. The horns of the animal were of good length,' on one side straight and the other Ride forked. The freak is not an unknown one, the horns usually beintr small, insignificant affairs, but it is believed that no female deer with as fully a developed set of horns has ever before been killed in this section. The head was sent to Marshfield where it is being mounted, and will be come a valuable part of Dr. Endi- cott's collection. -Myrtle Point Enterprise. Grant shipped eight An gora goats yesterday to H. G. Hunter, of Doswell, Virginia, The shipment consisted of one vearling buck, one buck kid, one 2-year-old doe, one yearling doe and one doe kid.
