Hawley were in Portland the first of the week attending the State Sunday School as delegates from the Christian school. George W. Sweet and family of Salem have moved to a place near Independence. W. W. Davis. Falls City Items. Floyd Graham has gone to Eastern Oregon. Miss Hattie Morrison visited in Salem, Saturday. W. J. Southwell was a Dallas visiter Saturday. Mrs. Ira Mehrling and daugh ter Ella spent Saturday in Dallas. Hon. W. L. Tooze and Mayor F. H. Hubbard drove to Dallas Saturday. Miss Etta Waters of Dallas visited her sister, Mrs. 0. J. Pugh, Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. J. E, Dunton at tended the Principals' Club meet ing at Dallas last week. Mrs. W. Maxey of Aberdeen, Wash., is visiting at the home of Mrs. Chas. Hebble this week. George Ritchey was called to Myrtle Creek, Friday, on account of the serious illness of his aged father. The play put on by Salem tal ent in Wagner's Hall, entitled "Diamonds and Hearts" was greeted by a full house. Mrs. E. L. Seaver after visit ing at the home of her sister, Mrs. T. E. Dwier, returned to her home at Portland. Merton Ellis sold two lots on Bridge street to L. W. Zorom. Mr. Zorom will build a beautiful bungalow on his property. Ira Lowe has gone to Portland to work in a drugstore. Ira is a fine young man but he has out grown Falls City and had to seek a larger town. Pearl Barlet had the misfor tune to get his thumb and first two fingers of his right hand shattered by the explosion of a dynamite cap which his little sis ter threw upon the stove. The physician found it necessary to amputate them. Mrs. E. A. LaDow is the own er of the boss business hen of Falls City if not of Polk County. This busy biddy presents her owner most every day with an enormous egg, several of which have measured from six and a half to seven inches. The last one received measured four by eight; who can beat that? let them speak now, or forever after hold their peace. An Intelligent Dog A Lincoln county man, living alone in an insolated cabin, be came sick and unable to walk, tied a message around his collie dog's neck, and told him, in the night, to "go," and though the dog had not been away from the place for six months he went through the woods and storm eight miles to the house of a rel ative of his master's, who read the message, summoned a doctor, and the man's life was saved. Yet some people argue learnedly that a doe can't reason. There are plenty of human beings who haven't a better reasoning ap paratus than this dog. Portland Journal.
