At all meetings of these sec
tions there will be a short pro
gram by the children of the dif
ferent schools of the section and
also subjects of interest to the
welfare of the schools of the
country will be discussed by those
present who wish to take part,
there will be no set program and
any who wish may feel free to
take what ever part they wish.
These meetings in the past
have done much good for the
schools of the county and by the
united efforts of all interested in
the boys and girls of the county
much more good may be gotten
from these meetings to be held
this year.

Mrs. J. M. Kitchen, mother of
Mrs. Dr. Bowersox, was here
from Stayton, Oregon to spend
Christmas with her daughter and
family.
The Salem High School basket
ball team came over New Years
day to play against the Monmouth
High School team and were de
feated by a score of 55 to 7.
Miss Ethel Rigdon of Salem,
and principal of the high school
at Ashland, Oregon, .was here to
spend the holidays with her
friend, Mrs. F. R. Bowersox.
The Monmouth High School
basket ball team and the town
team had a game Wednesday
evening in which the former
were the victors, the score be
ing 12 to 13. The first half of
the game was very close and it
was a good game all the way
through.
Harold Bogert, R. W. Speer,
A. D. Elder, E. C. Cole and some
other parties from Monmouth
visited the ice pond near Inde
pendence Wednesday with their
skates and enjoyed some genuine
skating. By the way, Mr. El
der is said to be an expert at
skating.
Last Monday Morris Wheelock,
who lives about one mile west of
town killed a large Bob Cat which
was seen by the rural mail carier
A. F. Huber, while passing by
his place. Mr. Wheelock inime
diately shouldered his gun and his
dog soon treed Mr. Bob Cat and
a well directed shot brought him
to the ground. The cold weath
er and snow is evidently driving
the wild animals to the valley.
At the regular meeting of
The Woodmen of World Wednes
day night the following officers
were duly installed for the ensu

Basket Ball Once More
v On next Saturday evening the
8th. the Albany High School team
will be in Monmouth to play
against the High School team
here.
The Albany team is in line for
the State championship and the
boys here put up a pretty strong
game, so that a lively game of
basket ball is expected.
The usual admission fee of 25
and 15 cents will be charged and
the boys will play all the better
if well encouraged.
