Stone, owner and mill-wright busily at work getting the plant in readi ness to turn out flour which he expects to be able to accomplish in about thirty days.' Mr. Stone showed us through the building and explained much of the process of cleaning the wheat and making the flour, but as our education is limited very wof ully along that line we are not capable of telling, it. , However there are some things we learned that may interest the public, . The building is 30x40 feet, and is four stories high and will be thoroughly equipped with mod ern machinery and will have a capacity of fifty barrels of flour daily, and will be driven by a thirty horse power electric motor. The flour will be ground on modern machinery, three ball bearing rolls being used in the process. These ball bearing rolls being a new process here in the west there being but two mills in Oregon and one in Washington that use this process. Another maceine that is not very common in Oregon is ' the sifter, an invention for taking the "whiskers" off the wheat. In this machine the grains pass between brushes in the cleaning aid separating process. We are told that there is but one other mill in Oregon provided with this apparatus, that one being located at Corvallis. Monmouth has made a start as a manufacturing town, and if the same energy is continued there can be other successes added. Mrs. Lige Casteel, of Spring field, was the guest of Mrs. D. E. The bill of A. G. Long was passed with a proviso in order that the recorder compare it with statements received previously before drawing the warrant ! The council discussed the pos sibility of bringing up the road tax proposition at the next annual election which takes place in December, but found the time too short on account of the notices that must be given prior to a change of charter such as is nec essary to make the proceedings lawful.
