Westfall was quite ill the latter part of last week, his son, A. B. Westfall having found him lying on the floor Friday evening unable to get up. He was much better at last report. The old gentleman is 85 years of age. A. N. Halleck brought us a couple of pears last week as a sample of what could be raised in this locality. They were of the variety known as the "Pound pear" and while they were large pears and would come near the pound mark, yet they were only an average of that variety. Pears do well in this part of Oregon. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Wright left here last Friday to visit their sons at Willamina where Mrs. Wright will stop for some weeks while Mr. Wright will go to visit a son at his old home in Kansas and look after business interests at that place. He exsects to be away from home for three weeks, but may extend his visit to a couple of months. Card of Thanks The undersigned desire through the colums of the Herald to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to those who lent their aid and sympathy in their bereavement in the loss of their kind, and loving mother, assuring one and all that such kindness and assistance shall not be forgotten, but shall long be cherished in greatful hearts.
