Orders left at Mon mouth bakery will receive prompt attention. ' 46-4t J. L. Murdock returned last week from a trip in Lincoln county in the interest of the Mon mouth Creamery. He was very successful, securing a consider able number of new patrons. Our creamery pays higher prices for cream than any other in this part of the state and it should receive the cream from every one that is interested in building up Monmouth, as well as their individual pocketbook. North of Monmouth, or rather we may say in North Monmouth, for it is only about four blocks from the college, one may find some of the nicest suburban homes of any in the northwest. Among them is that of Peter Springer. Mr. Springer has an ideal home, with fine water piped through the house in city fashion. A well arranged barn stands a short distance in the rear of the dwelling and a fine garden and small fruits complete the family orchard, making everything home like. He has a frontage on the road of five acres, with a ten acre tract back of it. Good cows and horses complete the details of the home. Just as we go to press Mr. Kurre informs us that his road has been granted by the County Court and that it will be opened right away, This is good news for several parties that have purchased land of Mr. Collins on the line of the new road. Martin, who resides near McMinnville, is harvesting the results of his experiments in alfalfa. Two years ago, under the direction of the Southern Pa cific, he sowed nine acres on well drained upland soil with a clay subsoil. His first crop this year averaged three and one-half tons per acre and recent rains will make an equal amount. With alfalfa $15 per ton this will make a neat income off the nine-acre tract. Standard Oil chemists are de clared to have discovered a process- whereby they can make but ter as a by-product of crude petro leum, according to a New York dispatch. If reports are true, plans have been prepared and contracts soon will be let for putting up a big butter making plant as a new department of the Standard Oil works in the Constable Hook section of Bay onne New Jersey. What are we to do with the man who will allow noxious weeds to run riot over his prem ises and not only cause himself damage, but untold damage to his neighbor? Many cases of this kind exist throughout the state and perhaps some could be found near here. This should not be. A dangerous animal abroad in the neighborhood would soon cause action to be taken, but it would be no more a menace to the welrare of the community than is , the neglect of noxious weeds growing on one's premises or in the 6treet adjacent thereto.
