Mrs. Zeralda Percival died in Salem Wednesday Feb. 5. The funeral services will be held in the Christian church at this place to-day at 11 a. m. Intermnt in the Monmouth cemetery. Mrs. Lydia Westfall died at her home here Friday after a long illness, aged 85 years, 6 months and 17 days. Funeral services conducted by Rev. W. A. Wood. Interment in Mon mouth cemetery. Mrs. Westfall had many friends here who will miss her very much. Curtis Johnson '06, who is in terested in the Eastern Oregon Land Co., inMoro, Oregon, was a visitor at the old Normal during commencement. Mr. Johnson reports business in a flourishing condition in that section of the country. His old friends were very glad to see him. There is an enormous deposit of borax at Summer Lake which was all staked out into claims and filed on several years ago, says the Bend Bulletin. And in addition to the borax and gypsum deposits, another prospective in dustry for this section is that of salt mining, for there is a generous deposit of this useful article in northern Lake county, not far from Alkali Lake. One of the school districts of Harney county, says the Times Herald, contains 60 townships or 2160 square miles. Reduced to acres this amounts to 1,154,540 acres. Another district is rather c.;Jy shaped, being 82 miles long Ly 22 miles wide. In length it would reach from the fair grounds at Porland to The Dalles. If the latter district had its school in the center a pupil living at -the extreme end would only have a trifling trip of 41 miles each way, or 82 miles each day to travel. Hotel Monmouth Arrivals.
