The tax levy this year is over four mills higher than last which was made necessary on account of the extra road work done and to be done this year. The levy is not heavy and it would not hurt the county if an additional two mills had been added to the road tax. The Ilillsboro Argus of the 14th said : ' 'C. R. Boyd of the Climax Milling Co. of this city has 300 pounds of wheat to donate to the birds of this vicinity, and hopes that everybody will be thought ful enough to provide for . the feathered songsters that make their home in this valley during the winter months." It has been truly said that no one knows what vast mineral and chemical deposits will yet be uncovered in central Oregon. This was illustrated a few weeks ago when a Bend man discover ed a large deposit of pure gyp sum at Bear Creek Buttes. This deposit has attracted attention of outside capital, says the Bulletin. The attendance for the month of December was not as good as for the months preceding, and I wish that all teachers, parents, and school officers, and children would try and bring the attend ance back to the 95 per cent we are trying to maintain. This report should have been published the last week in Dec. but several teachers were slow in sending in the reports and some through the pleasures of the holidays forgot that there were reports to be mailed and so my report has been delayed.
