In the Observer case we will omit the candidates to be paid for adver tisements after they receive their bills the lirsl of the month, if the paid advertisement is not actually paid. A citizen of Portland writes a letter to the press saying he would not sup port a certain cniulidato unless he paid his old house rent bill. How a bout (lie old subscript ion account, let the newspaper men get busy and give the candidal es free publicity who are in arrears. They surely are not worthy of ollice if they do not pay their bills. Make this an honest cam paign and tell the truth about the fellows that want ollice and thus pro tect the lax-payer and give the honest mail a show. DON'T DO IT We understand that a movement is on. for a round-trip rate In Salem, the latter part of each week and Hull several of Dallas citizens are en couraging that move. Don't do it, it is a bad spirit lo even think of going away from home to shop. Do not try to make Salem merchants believe that you are dissatisfied with your local merchants. You can not find any where in Oregon where dry goods, clothing or general merchandise is sold any cheaper than it is in Dallas. A few sore heads whose credit it not of the best are always kicking. Take the Dallas papers and compare the prices that merchants are quoting on their different lilies of goods and you will see that they are as low if not lower than those quoted by Salem merchants. At the present writing only one candidate for governor on the repub lican ticket has mixed with the Dallas voters and that is Johns. Four Dem ocratic candidates have visited Dallas thus far and more to follow. Our custom is to pay our doctors when we are sick, and sometimes not even then. The Celestial method, as shown by the example of the Emperor of China, is to pay the doctor only when one is well. As soon as the Emperor is sick it is a notification to his physicians that their salary is cut off till he is per fectly well again. The passionate teal with which the regulars go to work to get his majesty back where their salaries will begin again is said to be something astounding. The re sult is that the Enqieror is about the healthiest man standing on this planet, and his physicians seldom lose day's salary. Nelson who resides south of the city was in Dallas Saturday. Mr. Nelson ordered his paper changed to Monmouth instead of Dallas, the reason being that the Samuel hill is in a bad condition and the read from his place to Monmouth is good. He says that a number of his .neigh hoi's who used to trade in Dallas are now going to Monmouth on account of the condition of the -roads. Council Meeting. The city council held a short session last evening and 'adjourned until this evening. A member of the firm of Koon Bros, was present and gave an interesting talk on the different ways of constructing sceptic tanks and the probable costs of the same. As Dal las must soon construct these tanks, his remarks were given the closest attention by the members of the city council. Easter Millinery. Mrs. Toner the milliner went to Portland Sunday so as to be on hand early Monday morning at the whole sale houses. She found that the de mand for the late styles in Easter hats were so great that her stock had to be replanted. Call and see the new hats that she has just added. They are beauties. Frank Fawk of Salt Creek was a visitor in Dallas Saturday and re ports the roads in good condition. The Knightingale boys were in from Salt Creek Friday and report good crop prospects. Mrs. A. L. Martin left Monday for a week's visit with friends in South ern Oregon. diet Guthrie was in Dallas Satur day looking over the recent improve ments in the city. E. F. Spies of Corvallis visited this city last week and predicted a good future for Dallas. Mr. Chawncey Ferguson of Falls City was a business visitor in Dallas one day last week. W. E. Kurtr. and B. E. Mrs. Fred Hartley is enjoying a visit from her friend. Miss Hallie Gel vin of Oregon, Missouri. Bishop N. F. Swengal of Harris burg Pa., will preach at Riekreall on Tuesday, April 14th, at 8 p. m. John Frost one of our Polk County fanners, 2 miles south of Dallas was a shopping visitor in town Saturday. Mr. Walker of Independence was shaking hands with his many friends in Dallas Sunday afternoon. The first ball game of the season in Dallas will be played Friday. DR." VAN BRAKLE CLEARED OF CHARGE (From Sunday Oregonian, April 5th) The proceedings in Circuit Court against County Health officer, Van Brakle, charging that he is not a graduate of a reputable medical col leg was dismissed upon the request of County Attorney Hedger. Physicians of Oregon City, a rival school city to that of Dr. Van Brakle who is an osteopath, were behind the proceedings. Action Called Vindication. "The dismissal of the proceedings attacking my legal qualifications is a vindication of my rights to hold the ollice of County Health Officer," said Dr. Van Brakle. "The fact that this dismissal was asked for by those opposing me is proof positive that they were unable even to make out a case against me. Typical medical association tactics were used again filed a few minutes before the case was to e,ome for trial thus throwing lipon the taxpayers the exiH'iise of bringing witnesses from several parts of the state." The one charge now remaining against the local health officer is that which has been brought before the State Board of Health upon the com plaint of Dr. Guy Mount and Dr. M. C. Strickland, both of this city. WAS IT "FRAME UP?" (Editorial Oregon City Courier.) Evidence in the Van Brakle case showed that almost every doctor in the city was in waiting for the pa tient to return from Dr. Van Brakle 's office where they had sent liim. How strange, how very unusual that all of these doctors should "just bap pen" not to be busy on these two days, and every one ready to respond to the "call" to come to Dr. Strick land's office at the same hour both days. Singnificantly singular! Very un usual! Business must have been on the bum on these two "particular" occasion, when two men had been sent to Van Brakle 's otnee. Were these occasions "happen stances" or were they American Med ical Association politics? Were these actions on the part of the physicians of Oregon City for the good of the people or the goat of Dr. Van Brakle an osteopath? Are these physicians fighting for the health of the people or fighting against a competition they fear the drugless doctors? These suspicious circumstances would not be tolerated in political parties for thirty days. The people would rise up and break up the ma chine. And it is not far off when people of Oregon wilf rise up and abolish the laws which give the A. M. A. the Xwer tl'ey have to oppose the power to try a conqietitor by a jury of those in comietition.
