But one more day remains of the present Chautauqua session. That it lias been a success is the verdict of every man, woman and child who has witnessed the programs, and that we must have it again in 1914 is the com mon opinion. The men who made the present Chautauqua possible for Dal las are entitled to the thanks of ev ery one. They should not be asked to assume the additional burden, alone, for the coming year. Others who have heard and have profited by the intellectual and musical treats at the big tent in the city park, should assist in bringing this assembly to Dallas for next summer. And that they will do it, The Observer stead fastly believes. It has been the best and the most entertaining week that the people of Dallas have experienced, and all are loud in their praise of the occasion. But, with Dallas, as with all other towns, or cities, the Chautauqua sys tem demands a guarantee. They have vo trouble in flndinig communities which want the assembly, and who only ask that they be given the same opportunity to make good on a guar antee that Dallas has been offered. - But the point is, that Dallas people want the Chautauqua and they want it to become a permanent institution here, just as the people of other com munities want it to become perma nent there. The Chautauqua is a popular idea and seldom has a com munity tried the plan that did not clamor for a repetition. The Ob server believes that the Dallas Chau tauqua will in time become one of the most popular forms of summer entertainments that this section has ever experienced and if the public spirited and progressive citizens of this community, and the others out side the city, shall succeed in their present endeavor to bring it here for !)14, they will have laid the founda tion for one of the greatest services that they can possibly render to man kind. The Chautauqua idea is an educa tional institution. It is for the up lift and the betterment of mind and body. It appeals to all classes and to all ages. The ten-year old boy and the gray-haired man may each find something in every entertainment that will prove a guiding star to liet ter and to nobler things. It brings to us, within easy and inexpensive reach, a collection of the most accom plished musicians and entertaining lecturers, that we could not hope to see or hear under ordinary conditions. It is a splendid outing for the man with business cares, for the playful elnlil and the youth of our community. Dallas is indeed fortunate in having it, and now that the city has the op portunity we must not let it pass, to make the affair a feature of our summer season. Everybody is en thused, men and women and children are talking "Chautauqua" and it is the general theme of conversation in ollice and store. It is a great and glorious occasion aixi that arrange ments will be made to make it per manent for this city we lxliovo.
