For the purpose of making an ex tensive and comprehensive examina tion of possible gold deposits on his farm two and one-half miles west of Salem, in Polk county, on the Dallas road, William Schwett has made ar rangements with a mining expert from Cripple Creek, Colorado, to un dertake the development of the find, work to begin in October. On the Schwett farm are three springs, and it has long been known by the owner that good colors could be found at these springs. He gath ered some of the dirt and sent it to Denver for examination and assay. It was found that the soil ran about $60 to the ton, but the- great expense in volved in developing the prospect pre vented Mr. Schwett from going into the matter further at that time. He says he has now made arrangements to go ahead with the work and he proposes to find out Just what the hills on his farm contain. Among the plans already outlined by the Colorado mining man, is the sinking of a shaft 100 or 150 feet in depth in the hope of encountering the main ledge or lead. Recent investigations have, it is said, convinced experts that the dis covery is worth Investigating. A Marvelous Rord.
