In the evening he will address a union meeting to be held in the Methodist church. Sunday School Picnic. A picnic will be heid next Friday in the grove on the HowcliTo place a short distance cast of town, for the members of the Methodist Sunday school and all their friends. It will be in charge of Mrs. F. H. Morrison, superintendent of the Sunday school, and the entertainment features will consist of a program and lively sports of various kinds on the banks of the LaCreoIe. Two marriage ceremonies were per formed at the manse of the Presbyte rian church Saturday afternoon, by Rev. Edgar W. Miles,'.' John H. Prunk and Lula Ridenhaur were one of the couples, and the other was John L. Ridenhaur and Bertie Lawrence, all of Independence. A. W. Ridenhaur and Eliza Lawrence witnessed . the cere mony. Cherry Exhibit. An object lesson in cherry growing the prize winning kind that makes Polk famous at neighboring cherry fairs was displayed in the window of F. E. Cook's real estate office late ly. It consisted of a twig broken from a tree on George Harshman's farm near the southwest edge of town. Within a length of less than seven inches it bore 47 large Iascjous Lamberts. Dr. and Mrs. D. D. Eugene Hayter, cashier of the Dal las national Bank, has returned from a visit with his daughter, Mrs. H. Patterson, secretai-y-treas-urer of the Northwest Angora Coat Association, and field editor of the Oregon Agriculturist, of Portland, has been in the city on busness. ' Walter Roy and family left yester day for Toledo, where Mr. Roy will be employed on county road work for the remainder of the summer. . John Ebbe, the well-known road contractor, came out from Toledo, Saturday, to look after his contracts in Polk county. Miss Hallie Coad arrived home vesterday from a two weeks' stay at Newport. . Miss Hallie Hart, of Baker City, is visiting at the cottage of her uncle, 'f . J. Hayter, in Newport. Mr. and Mrs. h. W. Longhary, hon ored pioneers of Polk county, accom panied by their son, Frank, visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. U. . S. Loughary Jn Dallas yesterday. Cass Riggs was up from Crowley on a business visit yesterday. He was accompanied by his guest, AY. II. Strang, of Whitehall. Illinois. S. Ii. Stewart, of McCoy, was in the city on business last Friday. Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Cook made a business trip to Corvallis Saturday evening, and returned Sunday. They were accompanied home by Mrs. W. A. Wliitney, mother of Mrs. Cook. J. Rowles and son, of Salt Creek, were in Dallas on business Monday. Professor W. I. Ford, city superin tendent of schools, has returned from a ten days' outing at Oeean Park, in Tilamook county. Miles Seaver, of Portland, who was a sawyer in the mills here about 20 years ago, is in the city visiting old friends. Fred Toner, deputy county clerk, in company with a few friends from Oregon City, has gone to Southern Oregon for a two-weeks' hunting and fishing trip. , .
