LODGE OFFICERS INSTALLED HIGHER PRICE IN HOPS DUE California Offers of 26y2 Cents i Made, With No Takers. Another nnlift in hop prices is due, predicts the commercial editor of the Oipgonian. According to a wire from California, Proctor has orders in Sonoma at 20Va cents, but has closed no business as yet. There is little doubt the California market will be established at this figure in the coming week, and the Oregon market will necessarily follow. No business in spot hops or in con tracts has been reported locally for several days. In California Flint con tracted with Rooney for 100 bales of Sacramentos at 25 cents. The maximum estimate of the Cali fornia crop is now 70,000 bales, and it is said on the authority of a relia ble Santa Rosa dealer that M,000 bales have been contracted for or are controlled by dealers Red spider has appeared in the Sacramento seckjon, but the attack is not yet considered serious. .. The Oregon crop is in very good shaiie. The hot weather of the past week has killed off most of the ver min. The larger growers have been spraying and a fine quality of pro duct is almost assured. There is a diversity of opinion as to the size of the yield, but it is sate to say it will equal last year's, or about 93,000 bales. Conditions iir Washington are similar to those in Oregon, and the crop of that state is estimated at 2.1, 000 bales. It is now generally conceded that New York State will full short of lust year's output of 40,000 bales. by probably 5000 bales. FALLS CITY, July 18. James Forbes, a claim holder in the Siletz Basin, is lying in the hospital here in a precarious condition. His claim is 20 miles west of this place and four miles trom the roadway. Last Decem ber when he started from here to his claim, after he left the main road for the four-mile walk through the woods to his claim, he had no regular trail to follow and he followed blazes on trees as a guide. lie wandered from his course and was lost in the woods for live days, when he found a deserted cabin. Here he found a can of musty flour, having evidently been there for a long time. He used some of the flour for pancakes and lived on them for two days before help came and he was enabled to reach his own claim. The musty flour caused stomach trou ble and he grew steadily worse until now he is here under the care of physicians, who fear that his ailment is such as to preclude recovery. Tele grams will be sent from many towns in the state to Governor West, urg ing a special session of the legisla ture to consider necessary legislation for good roads, next Thursday. The commercial clubs and State Grunge will join hands in the movement. The plan originated here trom a desire to bond Jackson County for $1,000,000 the money to he spent in improving the highways of tho county. At tempts have been made to call a so cial election instead and have the eople vote warrants, but they have failed It is understood here that the Portland Chamber of Commerce and commercial bodies of virtually all progressive cities in the stale are backing the good roads movement. SALEM, July 18. Ralph E Kennedy, an employee on the Gov ernment dredge Champocg, was drowned in the Willamette River, four miles south of Salem, yesterday afternoon, while assisting in trans ferring a scow from the upper river to the dredge below tho Lola Rapids. Kennedy's wife stood on the deck of the dredge at the time of the acci dent, and the master of the boat, Cap tain Moss, also witnessed the man's plunge to death in the swift waters. Captain Moss was powerless to assist Kennedy on account of the distance between him and the scow, and could do nothing but give what assistance he could to the grief-stricken wife. Although men worked late last night dragging the river for the body, nothing could be accomplished, and it is believed it is lodged in the rocks somewhere at the foot of the rapids. . Name There Is a Heap of Solace In Being Aide to Depend Upon a WelL Earned Reputation. For months Dallas readers have seen the constant expression of praise for Doan's Kidney Pills, and read about the good work they have done In this locality. Not another remedy ever produced such Convincing proof of merit. Mrs. Melissa Gooro, Log Cabin St., Independence, Ore., says: "I suffered for years from kidney complaint, the principal symptoms being a retention of the kidney secretions and nervous ness. I was also subject to head-' aches and dizzy spells. I felt weak and run down and hardly knew what to do to find relief, as I had doctored a great deal without being benefited. I finally began using Doan's Kidney Pills, and in less than a week I was helped. The contents of four boxes of this remedy made me feel like a dif ferent woman, ridding me of the headaches and dizzy spells and strengthening my back. My kidneys are now normal and I feel better in every way." The above statement was given Sept. 7, 1907, and on Dec. 9, 1909, Mrs. Gooro said: "The statement I LEAVING AIRL1E.
