DALLAS, OREGON, APRIL 18, 1911
The way to build up Dallat is to pat
ronize Dallas people.
FRANK W. BENSON.
TorVinn no man in public life in
Oregon ever enjoyed the confidence of
the entire people in a greater degree
than did Frank W. Benson, and it is
certain that none merited it more.
Knrimiilmislv honest, thoroughly con
scientious, and always faithful to hiB
-,,, whether serving as county ciem,
or secretary of state, or governor of a
nnd growing commonweaun
this quiet, unassuming man won and
,y the resDect and esteem of ali.
That the people of Oregon appreciated
him at his true value was shown In the
last election, when he was retained in
his office by the largest majority ever
riven to any candidate In this state.
Notwithstanding the fact that he was
in California during the campaign, aim
ho further fact that he aa noi im
pend a cent in securing his election af
ter the September primary, he carried

. v,o diction of George E

office, became Governor ot ureB"
While it was a position he In no way
.lo.irert. and although Buttering irom
lit health at the time, he cheerfully
assumed the Increased responsibility
and gave the state a careful and crea
itni.lo no-ministration of Its anairs.
I. helleved by those who knew him
most intimately that his conscientious
endeavor to perform well the exacting
duties of these two important offices
was responsible for his complete
,rpBkdnwn In health. His long and
oourageous fight against the malady
that caused his death was such as to
rommand the most steadfast admlra
tion and the deepest sympathy of his
thmiannds of friends.
HiBtorv will not write Frank W.
Benson as a doer of great deeds, but it
ui record him as one who was raiin
ful to every trust reposed In him by
the people of his county and state.

Angora Goats ami Mohair,
If you see a man carrying a hand
some booklet under his arm and try
ing to find a quiet place to read, you
may set it down that he is a goat rais
er and that he has Just received a copy
of "The Angora Goat and Mohair In
dustry of the Pacific Northwest." Such
is the title of an elaborate publication
lately Issued by the Northwest Angora
Goat Association, and which was com
piled by Alva L. McDonald, secretary
treasurer of that organization. It con
tains a full report of the proceedings
of the first annual session of the asso
ciation held in Portland last January,
besides many other interesting fea
tures which make It an Important
treatise on the subject of goats and
the production of mohair. It is com
posed of 70 pages printed on fine pa
per, 7 by 10 inches In size, and is finely
illustrated with excellent halftone en
gravings. ' Over $500 was expended in
its preparation. It Is the most instruct-
ve and comprehensive literature on
the subject yet issued, and. every one
who is at all Interested in Angoras
should send for a copy, enclosing five
cents for postage. -
Owing to the fact that Dallas is the
center of the industry in the North
west, much of the matter in the re
port pertains to the breeders of Polk
County, the home of "Blue KioDon
stock. Portraits of a number of local
breeders are published, among them
being those of V. S. Grant, president
of the National Mohair Growers' Asso
ciation, County Commissioner Riddell
and five of his stalwart sons; J. B.
Stump, of Monmouth; Guthrie Broth
ers, of Dallas; Mrs. J. W. Farley, of
Oak Knoll Farm;" and Thomas
Brunk, of "Spring Grove Farm.';
Papers are published from the pens
of Commissioner Riddell ana Mr.
Grant.
The title page is ornamented with a
fine reproduction of the grand cham
pion buck at the show of last January.
He was the property of William Rid
dell & Sons, and was pronounced the
finest specimen ever handled by the
Judge. The hair on the animal was i
Inches in length, and was valued at
approximately $100. A picture is given
of the champion doe, also the property
of Riddell & Son
An engraving is given of the cele
brated "Sanford," at the head ot Mr.
Grant's flock. He was the champion
South African buck at the eighth an
nual show in Dallas. Among the prize
winners pictured are a number owned
by the following noted breeders: J. B.
Stump,' Guthrie Brothers, Farley &
Cllne, Mrs. W. J. Farley, and Albert
Teal, Introducer and breeder of Tog-
genburg milch goats.
