Bean, a lawyer resid ing in Eastern Oregon, is a candidate for the nomination for Supreme Judge. and in the hope of winning in the pri mary is sending out a letter in which an unprofessional and undignified at tRck Is made on Wallace McCamant, of Portland. Representative I E. Bean, of Eu gene, fearing that some voters may tw led to vote for this Eastern Oregon lawyer, under the Impression that he is a brother of Federal Judge Robert S. Bean, has written the following letter for publication: Eugene, Or., Sept 2, 1910. I am advised that there is some mis apprehension throughout the state in connection with the candidacy of Henry J. Bean for Supreme Judge. It comes to me from many quarters that his name Is being confused with that of my brother, Robert S. Bean, who for many years was a member of the Supreme Court. I take this means of correcting any misapprehension In the matter, and to say that Henry J. Bean is not related to me nor to our family. Furthermore, I am not supporting him in his can didacy, and hope that no friends of mine or of my brother, Robert S. Bean, will vote against Mr. McCamant or' Judge McBride under the Impression that they are supporting some mem ber of our family. (Signed) L. E. BEAN. Men are queer. Yet the major ity of men, when they go to a restau rant will pick out the high stool and the feed board with no cloth on it In preference to a comfortable chair with a cloth covered table. A man will borrow a chew of tobac co and most of them will set their teeth Into the plug where some other man has gnawed off a chew. Offer him a piece of pie at home from which his wife or one of the children had taken a bite and he would holler his head off. At home he will not drink out of a glass from which one of the family has been drinking. Call him Into the back stall of a livery barn, pull out a bottle and he will stick the neck of the bottle half way down his throat in order to get a swig, after half a dozen fellows have had the neck of the bot tle in their mouths. Truly, a man Is a queer duck. Farm and SOMETHING NEW IN SILOS Solution of Problem Found by Iowa Agricultural Experiment Station. Cheaper than wood, as durable us concrete that Is the essence of the new Iowa silo devised by the Iowa experiment station. Two years n-:o the station set out to solve the silo problem. The result was u silo made of hollow tile blocks, hard burned. Thirteen of these silos were in prac tical operation on Iowa farms last win ter. In no cuse was an unfavorable report made. It was found that the slluge kept fully as well us In stave or i.-uui.-ieie biuw. j.uere was no more freezing than in stave silos nnd less thnn in single walled concrete silos. The material from which the hollow tiles are made hns been used for years while remembering that the round structure is In every way superior to the square cheaper to build, easier to stay with girders, while, owing to the fact that there are no corners, the silage keeps much better. If a land lord Is so shortsighted that he will not share with bis tenant the cost of a silo the latter could afford to build a stave silo, provided he bad a lease of ttra farm for three or four years. At the' end of his lease, if the landlord did not wish to take it off his hands, the tenant could take it down and with him to the next place he rents. GOAT MEAT TO BE SOLD will Bo Put on Market in Oregon Under Its Itlglit Name. Angora goat meat, under Its real name, will be put on the market In Salem next week. It may be purchased at either Steusloff's or at the market of E. C. Cross & Son, and people of Sa lem are urged to promote the Angora goat industry in this valley by trying a quarter of It. Be will want a better bouse In which to live, a bet ter school for his children and better public roads.-Outlook. could be nothing finer on the table. An effort is being made by raisers of the goat to establish a regular mar ket for the meat in Salem and state that nothing but choice young Angoras will be put up for sale. In the bulletin Issued by the depart ment or agriculture giving the condi tion of the corn crop of the country on July 1, the total acreage planted is placed at 114,083,000 acres, which is an increase of 5,312,000 acres, or 4.9 per cent, as compared with the final estimate of last year's acreage. The condition of the crop is placed at 85.4 per cent, as compared with 89.3 for July 1, 1909, and 85.1, the average for ten years. There are six states, which have a corn acreage exceeding 8,000,- 000 acres, and they are as follows with the area in each devoted to growing this staple cereal: Illinois. 10.009.000 acres: Iowa, 9.47G.0000; Texas. 8,905.- 000; Kansas, 8,aj2,000; Missouri, 8,202.- 000, and Nebraska, 8.0G0.000 acres. Another objection to the stave silo is that It blows down easily wnen empty und also dries out bndly. None of these objections applies to the Iowa silo. Concrete Is on excellent material for silo building. About the only serious aimculty is that expensive forms and skilled labor must be used. No forms are required for the Iowa silo. Any mason familiar with brick work run put up one by following directions. Owing to the air space in the walls of tho Iowa silo, there is less freezing than in a single walled concrete silo. A double walled concrete silo Is most effective lu keeping out frost, but the cost Is so great as to prohibit Its gen eral use. The material for making hollow tile blocks found all over the country.
